Banff/Lake Louise offers a wide range of accommodations. Older mountain lodges are quaint, rooted in by-gone days when 4 season lodging was neither popular nor practical. Gone are the days when visitors huddled round the fire to stay alive. Still, at Deer Lodge in very cold weather you sense the danger that lies outdoors: Even the creaking of old floors echo the cold. You may be awakened to hear the modern furnace struggle to keep the frigid cold from entering your room! Such inconveniences add to the quaintness. Broken pipes are a by-product of trying to cope with winter weather in an older lodge: But power outages and water pipes broke at the Chateau Lake Louise on the same week-end! Bundle up. Shut up and enjoy!

Room Tip: Timid travelers should ask about the noise the furnace makes at night. Maybe ask whether a group of...

This hotel has a very good location, just behind the Fairmont Chataeu, 3 minute walk to the shore of the Lake. The Hotel "squeeks" slightly, going up the stairs etc. Rooms small, but comfy.

Extremely disappointed when we walked into the room and there was not even space for us and our 2 night luggage. No TV, no coffee, not even a table. Absolutely horrible.

We stayed at the Deer Lodge for 1 night in December. Deer Lodge is part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Resort group, a group of quality boutique lodges in the Canadian Rockies. On arrival, we recieved a friendly welcome and an upgraded room. The room was quiet and quite large, with quality natural furnishings and a small balcony. The lodge itself is a historic building with character and charm, especially when covered and surrounded in snow, as it was when we stayed here. A highlight of staying here is the rooftop hot tub, which we enjoyed whilst the temperature outside was around minus 5 degrees celsius. The hotel has a nice open sitting area, where you can enjoy a drink before or after dinner. The hotel resturant provides high quality food and wine with friendly service. The hotel also has a good selection of games which can be loaned for free. Deer Lodge is only a few minutes drive and/or short walking distance to Lake Louise. Overall, Deer lodge is a high quality hotel, with character and charm, close to Lake Louise.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent stay at Deer Lodge. We are so pleased you enjoy your overnight accommodations in our Heritage wing as well as your dining experience in the Mount Fairview Dining Room and Caribou Lounge. The lodge offers Rocky Mountain Cuisine as well as an extensive wine list in a European style lodging environment all just minutes away from Lake Louise itself. Thank you for staying with us at Deer Lodge.

Many Thanks and Kind Regards,
Sales Coordinator for Deer Lodge

What made us pick this was the roof-top hot tub. Very enjoyable.

The Deer Lodge has good and free Wi-Fi. (Don't stay in a hotel without free wi-fi.)

The economic rooms have a bed. Not much floor space that we could detect, but there was a bed. But if you out skiing all day, what else do you need?

We elected for a Heritage Room. Much roomier. There is no TV in the room, but who needs it? The supplied coffee-maker was much more use.

Downstairs, there is a roaring fire, two (yes!) rooms with pianos, a satellite TV room, a sauna and on the roof, the hot-tub. If we eat in the restaurant, I'll review, but the menu had a lot of game. Good for me, but my partner feels red-meated-out and may be struggling for anything other than chicken.

The hotel has many corridors and stairs, and you are given, and need, a map of the inside of the hotel. Very interesting and quirky! Do not expect brand new Radisson-style rooms, but they are very clean, the bathroom is fine and very clean, and the bed comfortable. There is an in-room safe which works, but there is a note on it saying "due to problems other guests have had, we suggest you do not use". Again, quirky.

The Deer Lodge is only a little further from the Chateau than the Chateau car parks, so walking there was a doddle. Parking at the Deer Lodge is outside - I did not see an underground lot - but there are sockets for you to plug in your block warmer, if necessary.

The information centre in Lake Louise was very helpful, for hotel searches and driving conditions. FYI the PostHotel does not subscribe to the information centre, so don't go enquiring there.

Given the price of the Chateau and the PostHotel, we thought the Deer Lodge was a great deal.

Room Tip: Ask for a view.

My boyfriend and I stayed here last weekend. It is up past the village of Lake Louise right close to the Chateau and lake. The hotel from the outside with all the snow was really pretty and looked charming for quite an old building. The reception area is pretty old but cute. They have kept the hotel true to its character. The tower room that we booked i guess had some heating issues so they put us in a Heritage room in the newer wing. it was up a few flights of stairs and the carpets needed a good cleaning. Our room was pretty nice. Could tell was a bit older with renos. The king size bed was nice and quite comfortable. There was no TV which when it gets dark at 5 or 5:30 it is ncie to have a TV sometimes. They did have a communal TV room with a DVD player somewhere in the hotel. The walls were very thin and we could hear people in the halls and other rooms talking. walking and even unlocking doors and showering.
The hotel has a few little sitting rooms with a stone fireplace which was ncie and a restaurant...that we didnt check out. We walked up to the hot tub on the rooftop deck which has a beautiful view but is very small and was full when we were there.
All in all it was an ok place....had its older charm but could be spruced up. For $200 I would have expected more.

The rooms are small, but comfortable. The lodge has a nice historic feel to it. We especially enjoyed the rooftop hot tub!!! The views from the tub are stunning!!!!
