It is very close to the lake

Arrived to be told 2 bookings had been made by our tour operator and it was our problem to sort it out. This really annoyed me only after a lot pushing did the receptionist say she would speak to the manager to see if the Deer Lodge would deal with it. Passing reception later the receptionist did say the Deer Lodge would deal with it.

We booked one of larger rooms which was comfortable but the 2 double beds where a little on the small size. A fridge in the room would have been nice. i

The buffet at breakfast was only filled up when you asked for something that had run out.

We stayed here 2 nights on our trip round the Rockies. I was apprehensive after reading reviews on Tripadvisor but enjoyed our stay. Rooms and corridors generally dark, but atmospheric and comfortable. Fire in the sitting room welcoming - it was cool and wet when we arrived. It's a short walk to the lake with stunning views. Staff were generally friendly and helpful. We ate in the bar each night and enjoyed the meals.

Only a few hundred yards up fro Lake Louise this elderly hotel is quite practical for a one night visit. The hotel does really show its age in the rooms and corridors although the public areas are pleasant and comfortable. In our room there appeared only one electrical socket which then had multiple extensions and the bathroom made mention that because of its ancient charm it was not advisable to use the taps or toilet when showering as cut the supply to the shower. Coming from where we have 16th century hotels with charm and modern plumbing spending money on an upgrade would seem to be advisable. Good restaurant for dinner and a good, but not included, breakfast

Well what can you say about Deer Lodge. Common areas, bars, restaurant and lounge are lovely. Staff pleasant but check can be slow when busy. We stayed on 3rd floor in a place with no lifts, so prepare for a walk with cases. ( Staff helped when available). Our room must have been the smallest room I have ever slept in and if we were staying more than one night I would have checked out and gone down the road. Overall it was clean but old (Quaint). Ok for one night only in our room.

This is a great location in you want to stay at Lake Louise as it's only a 3-4 min walk , it's an old Lodge and has that old building charm so I'd suggest booking a Heritage room , these are a good size with a great bed and super comfy pillows , there's no TV , safe or fridge in the room which is a bit disappointing nowadays .

Unfortunately we couldn't eat at the hotel as there was a power cut and the power didn't come back on until around 7.30pm ,this is where I and the other half disagree as she says it's not their fault as the whole area was out.....but all that was offered was "go to the deli at the chateau" or starve .

Now if you've got a kitchen a chef and power you'd think you'd be able to provide something for the guests to eat even if it's not the normal menu even a cold Buffett would have been welcomed and shown some sort of customer care/interest especially as the hotel was full !!!.

stayed here en route to BC and as we know the area we can be forgiving as to the standard of the hotel. no tea or coffee in the rooms. bathroom facilities basic. lack of sockets. doesn't cater for the modern traveller but it is nostalgic.

On touring Canada this was the hotel and location was the one place we were both looking forward too. How disappointed we was from the initial greeting at reception , you was made to feel more than a hindrance than paying guests special mention for the Australian receptionist who really needs some customer service training. The room allocated was very small, smelt musty and for some strange reason had halogen lights as bedside lamp which were seriously hot. You had to be careful when getting out the bed and not hitting your head on the wall. Asked the reception how far the village was and was thrown a map and told it was just down the road after an hour and a quarter of walking the village was shut.
Please be aware of the sign just above the wash basin in your room explaining that the hot water is scalding due to the heating system.
Used the restaurant for breakfast had a choice of the buffet for $20 or order from the menu, the buffet was dreadful so opted for the steak and eggs which was ok.
If you are travelling from hotel to hotel as we was unless you wish to stay at the Fairmont just visit Lake Louise and stay another night in Banff. The Deer Lodge has all the potential of being a good hotel but for now avoid.
