“Cosy Cabin”
Reviewed 27 September 2010

We stayed for two nights in a cosy cabin. An ideal retreat away from the hustle and bustle of Lake Louise. Tea, coffee and porridge oats for breakfast were supplied. Recommend you buy other supplies before reaching Lake Louise as the supermarket is expensive. Helpful receptionist.

We had a Saddleback with two queen bedrooms which suited us well as two couples. The rooms and grounds were all kept to a beautiful standard. Staff were very helpful and accommodating. This was very well situated to Lake Louise.

Perfect location right next door to Lake Louise and only seven miles from Morraine Lake. Cabins are delightful but pricey.

They have stopped serving breakfast, but everything is still sparkling clean.

Get a cabin at the back of the property if you can - the views are much more impressive and the noise from the road is less intrusive.

Highly recommended....!

I loved our little cabin in the woods-cozy, quiet and clean. We had a claw foot tub, little kitchen and pot belly stove. The receptionist gave us suggestions for great, reasonably priced local restaurants to try, hiking trails to try, etc. The lodge is literally just 3 minutes away from Lake Louise. I'm so glad we stayed there instead of a regular hotel style place (neighbors on both sides, stairs, lobby, etc).

I chose the Paradise Lodge & Bungalows for my stay at Lake Louise based on other TripAdvisor ratings, and I am glad I did. In many ways, it was the best lodging of my 2-week trip to the northern Rockies. The cabins are extraordinarily well maintained--so much so that they all look nearly new, even though the original structures are decades old.

My wife and I stayed in Cabin 21, a one-room (plus bathroom) cabin that Paradise calls a "Feuz" (pronounced "Foitz") cabin. (The cabin styles are named after various Swiss guides who were once employed in the area to guide visitors on hiking trips.) Squeezed in between cabins 10 and 11, Cabin 21 may have been a later addition to the lodging establishment--putting it on the outer edge of the rows of cabins. So while many of the cabins have a view of other cabins, this one has a great view of a wildflower-covered hill, trees, and mountains in the distance. (See picture.)

The cabin includes a gas heating stove, controlled by a thermostat. Even in August, we were glad to have a little heat at night! The bathroom had been recently remodeled, and included an exceptionally large walk-in shower. The kitchenette area was a bit on the small side, with a small fridge, microwave, coffee maker and toaster, but no range. There were plates and utensils for exactly two people--so don't count on doing any heavy-duty cooking. The cabin lacked a closet (or even an alcove to store suitcases) so we felt a little cramped. The deck, which has a terrific view, was large enough for two people to sit and enjoy the outdoors (and swat at bugs; bring bug spray!). A nice touch was the CD player in the room, along with three CDs (Canadian artists, of course!).

The cabins have been built around the trees, so it is a bit difficult to maneuver a large car. There is a gas grill available (one grill for the whole establishment, with the knobs removed), but it certainly was not overused. At the office, they told me to let them know when I wanted to use it, and someone would come up with the knobs and light it...a bit unusual, but it works!

Paradise is located about a mile from Lake Louise, well away from the bustle of the "Village of Lake Louise." It is situated near the road to Moraine Lake, making visits to both lakes very easy. But even though hundreds of cars pass by every day on the road to Lake Louise, you are far enough from the road that noise is not a problem. Typically, the only noises we heard were the wind in the trees and the stream running down the mountainside.

(Extra tip for photographers--Lake Louise is at its best in the morning, before the canoe livery opens at 8:30 am. After that time, the beautiful reflections of the mountains in the lake will be all gone, because of the canoes on the water.)

If I ever come back to Lake Louise, I'll be sure to stay here again!

Do NOT stay here unless you check your bedding first! When we stayed, the duvet had blood all over one side of it. Obviously, housekeeping is extremely lax. The office did NOTHING to compensate us for staying in an unsanitary bed. We slept with only a bedsheet. We couldn't wait to check out in the morning. WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE!

We stayed for 3 nights in the Temple Suite - part of our fortnight in the Canadian Rockies. We mainly agree with other reviewers comments - the grounds and rooms are kept very tidy and clean. The staff are good too - we particulary appreciated their advice regarding places to eat and the local menus kept in reception.
It is worth noting that the Paradise Lodge is located on the road to Lake Louise, which is a very busy road - If you have a room which is close to the road you will hear traffic noise. It was hot during our stay and having the windows open made the noise more noticeable.
As others have said, this isn't a cheap place to stay, but it is very central in terms of the popular places to visit.
