“Impressed even though it's only a night”

We stayed at The Post Hotel on our way to Galgary after spending a day at Jasper. It was a bit of a challenge to locate the hotel initially due to a lack of proper signage (even though it's just located just next to the main road and a river). But once you've overcome this, the experience is impressive.

On the day that we arrived, there was a huge tent erected in the carpark and we had to park our car quite a distance away and were not able to unload our luggages in front of the lobby. However, the bellboy was quick to notice us and push a trolley all the way from the main reception area to where we parked our car to assist us.

The check-in was smooth and the bellboy (his name is Julian if I'm remember correctly), who assisted us, showed us to the room and explained every single detail from the services and the switches in room to us. And this guy is only an intern with the hotel!

The room is not decorated to my taste ( a bit on the old side) but it was very comfortable. The bathroom has its own hot tub and a comprehensive range of Aveda toiletries (and they actually provide shower gel when most other hotels do not even provide such basic toiletry).

We wanted to dine at the restaurant but found it a bit stifling to our liking (there was a wine event in the restaurant and everyone was rather well dressed). Before we left for our dinner in town, we checked with the restaurant manager whether breakfast would be served. We were told by the restaurant manager that they were not serving breakfast due to the wine event in the hotel but this was not what was communicated to us at the front desk when we checked in. A communication mishap between the restaurant and front desk.

The hotel provides turn down service (this really differentiates the god hotels from the mediocre ones).

The next morning, we took some time to use the gym facilities and the pool. There is a hot tub just and a communal steam room besides the pool.

On the whiole, it was a great experience.

I've been wanting to take a trip to the Lake Louise area for some time now. The plan was to spend 4 nights in Lake Louise proper, but when I saw that the second highest rated hotel in Canada according to the Conde Nast Gold List was located about 30 minutes from Lake Louise, it seemed we might be missing out on something special, so we decided to split our stay between Emerald Lake and Lake Louise. I booked us a lakeside suite at Emerald Lake Lodge for 2 nights and a lake view room at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise for two nights. You can read my review of the Emerald Lake Lodge on this site too.

The drive from Calgary was very scenic once we got into the mountains. Along the way to Emerald Lake we decided to stop off in Lake Louise and have lunch at the Fairmont. Absolutely stunning view. Actually we ended up eating there everyday for lunch. But the Fairmont hotel itself is a little too dated for my tastes, so we ended up changing our reservations and booking a riverside cabin at the Post Hotel & Spa...a decision we would not regret.

The Post Hotel & Spa doesn't seem like much from the street. It doesn't have the marquee location that the Fairmont does, but it more than makes up for that in other areas.

First, the positive...and there's a lot. We stayed in a cabin suite on the river. Not very spacious but well appointed and very cozy. Well built, comfortable linens, nice finishes. The sound of the river several feet from the doorstep is very soothing. The comfortable deck chairs on the river bank are great place to get some sun. My only gripe would be that the shower was a bit awkward to operate without getting the bathroom floor sopping wet.

The restaurant is truly excellent. Everything on the menu we tried was expertly prepared. And the wine list is amazing. I recommend the chateaubriand and a bottle of the Darioush cabernet. Service was very professional and friendly, observing all the proper etiquette you would expect from your finest, big city establishments.

The spa, while the facilities are not very large, is well run and has an extensive menu of treatments. We booked some last minute massages because it rained one day. The staff went out of their way to accommodate us.

The hotel is very well maintained and run. Grounds are manicured. Maid and turn down service is discrete. And after awhile you really begin to appreciate the details... the uniform, mowing pattern on the lawn, the artfully arranged kindling in the fireplace, how the staff seems to be readily at your service but not overbearing.

The only gripe I have is the Internet service. Generally, it's pretty poor except in the main lobby. The service is slow. Also, the login system requires you to login each and every time you wake your computer, which is annoying.

But all in all, if I came back to Lake Louise I'd stay here again, not at the Fairmont.

We have stayed at the Post Hotel a few times before, but haven't been back for over 3 years. The hotel is as great and relaxing as we remembered. We absolutely love the fireplace and the balcony. This hotel is great for a relaxing, quiet getaway. Only one warning for the light sleepers, there is a rail road very close to the hotel and the train can be loud if you are sleeping with open windows.
We had dinner at the restaurant one evening, the food and wine was amazing. The pub also has great food for a more reasonable cost. The hotel is close to the Lake Louise village with a liquor store, grocery market, fresh bakery and a restaurant.
We got massages at the spa and they were great. The facility is very nice as well. The change rooms have a steam room and a hot tub. There is co-ed pool, top tub and steam room. It is open to all guests of the hotel.

My sister and I spent a week cross country skiing in Lake Louise and were delighted to return to the Post Hotel which was even better than when we stayed a few years ago. The service was top notch with beautifully appointed, cozy bedrooms, lovely public lounges, fresh flowers everywhere, exciting cuisine and a lovely spa. The staff was friendly and professional. We enjoyed a tasty breakfast every morning in the beautiful dining room which we happily returned to in the evening for an elegant dinner. The menu was a treat with many regional specialties. The wine selection was fantastic. We enjoyed room service twice, which was delightful in our lovely room after spending the afternoon at the inviting spa. The swimming pool and steam room was perfect after a day of skiing. The tea service with fresh pastries in the charming lobby is a wonderful late afternoon break to watch the ice skating out the large windows. Everything was really perfect!

This hotel is very quiet and pleasant. The decor felt dated though perfectly maintained. It is also the opposite of the Fairmont at Lake Louise which seemed like a very busy, big city convention hotel -- a constant stream of tourist passing through its doors. I am so glad we choose it over the Fairmont.

We stayed in a Post Lodge Suite- which is like being in your own log cabin. We booked a romance package which included one spa treatment and dinner one evening. The staff were all attentive and courteous and we had a wonderful weekend. It was -36C on the Saturday and Sunday so we appreciated the jacuzzi tub and the warmth of the room upon our return from skiing.
The food in the restaurant was delicious.
Yes, this hotel is expensive but it is worth every penny. The restaurant was fully booked on the Friday and Saturday evening so we recommend that you book a table when reserving your room. Also, if booking a romance package, book your spa treatment in advance too.

This is my first time at this hotel. It was recommended to us by some friends. I've been to lake Louise a lot of times but I have not seen this hotel before.. Oh it's just at the back of the corner store. Although this hotel is quite expensive like the Fairmont Chateau...
I was delighted to know that they have a SPA. It is the main reason I wanted to stay here. The scent of natural ingredients used in the SPA relaxes my body and mind. My therapist Marina is wonderful. She made me at home. The warm water jacuzzi is so powerful it relieves my lower back strain and tension in my muscles. It's absolutely rejuvenates me from the"wear and tear" of everyday life. My son truly enjoyed the salt water pool that's definitely good for your skin. It's totally opposi from the itchy red we get from the chlorinated/fluorinated pool.
