“Perfect vacation”
Reviewed 11 July 2014

Stayed here with my adult daughter for two nights. It was such a wonderful experience that we asked to extend our stay another evening and cancelled our next reservation. Our lodge room was not available but we were given a variety of choices and settled on one. A short time later they knocked on our door and offered us a complimentary upgrade to a deluxe cabin with fireplace and very comfortable twin beds and a very deep and cozy bathtub. They moved our luggage for us the next day while we were out hiking and even made reservations for massages down at the Post Hotel for when we returned. The staff here are uniformly gracious, competent, and eager to help. The breakfast is beyond excellent and the dinner, while pricey, is worth exploring. We had two excellent meals here. The hiking in the area is excellent ranging from short rambles to Consolation Lake with the Lodge's Naturalist to longer hikes up to Larch Meadows and beyond Sentinel Pass or Wenkchemna. We did not have time to hike everything so I think we will have to return next year. The Lodge offers evening talks by the guide/naturalist husband/wife team and they were very interesting and informative. The tourist buses are easily avoided if you leave during the day to hike and the set up is such that they are all down below the more private area of the Lodge. And the view.... I can't say anything that hasn't already been said. It is so beautiful that you must go see it!

Room Tip: They are all good. I liked staying in the Lodge because it was convenient for the afternoon teas in...

We pushed the boat out for our final three nights and we are so glad we did. We stayed in one of the lodge cabins with a view of the lake. The bathroom was a bit on the small side but the room itself was lovely with a small sunken lounge area with a real fire.
Lake Moraine itself is simply stunning - the most amazing aqua colour (one tourist was heard to ask a local what chemicals they put in it to make if that colour). There are lots of trails just off from the hotel although be aware that quite often you can only walk them in a group of 4 or more. This is a legal requirement because of the danger of grizzlies (not that we saw any). If you hang around by the start of the trail it's easy to hook up with others.
Non-residents come to see the lake in their hordes and walk the trails past the lodges. There is a large public car park before you get to the entrance for the lodge and it gets very busy but we had no problem getting to the lodge car park without too much of a wait.
The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful and with only 33 rooms it felt more intimate. We were looking at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise originally before we found Moraine Lake Lodge and walking past it on one of our hikes we are pleased we didn't opt for it. It was absolutely huge.
Breakfast was included. We also ate at the lodge each night as it was easy. The food was very good - more hearty than fine dining. A special thanks to Nikki in the dining room for always greeting you with a smile and a genuine interest in your day and suggestions, if asked, for trails to hike.
Residents can use the kayaks without charge and be aware that although the public hut closes at 5 if you ask at reception you can still take a kayak out after that time.
We had a truly memorable stay and we wouldn't hesitate to go back.

This place is absolutely gorgeous with a rustic and cozy feel. The staff is very welcoming and goes above and beyond the call of duty every time. For example, I forgot a simple inexpensive necklace during my engagement weekend there and the staff took the time out of their day to email us and send it to us! I was very impressed by that initiative because the necklace had sentimental value but this was only the cherry on top to show that this place is a must visit :)

My husband and I stay here for 2 nights last weekend (June 27-29th) We were able to book one of the cabins with a beautiful view of this gorgeous lake. We arrived at about 2 pm - I had asked for an early check-in but our room was not available. No problem - we decided to go for a paddle on the lake. Just fantastic! By the time we finished about an hour later our room was ready. It was very nice (Cabin 7) but actually smaller than I thought and for $625/night it was a bit of a disappointment. The Wifi is very sporadic which we knew would happen - you are in the wilderness. Anyhow we sat on the deck and had some bubbly that the hotel had left for us in the room which was very thoughtful as we were there to celebrate a special occasion. We had made reservations for dinner. The dining room is lovely with a great view of the lake but our food was not great at all. Both of us were very disappointed with the food both nights. No taste, tough pheasant and bison. I had the Sable fish the second night - it was cooked very well but there was no taste. The wine list is fairly good.... Breakfasts were better.
So - a fabulous location but they need to work on the food aspect in our opinion and again for the price you pay we expect more.
The staff was very friendly and we met some lovely people from all over the world.
Our hike to Consolation Lake with the staff naturalist was really fun. We also did the lake trail and the rock pile.

If you have a lot of time on your hands and need to get away from city life or the just a nice weekend getaway. This is the best ever for peace, quiet, scenery and for making any serious life decisions you may be contemplating. The restaraunt has a wonderful menu and the staff are awesome! There is a gift store with a lot to offer.

Room Tip: We went on Canada Day and it was still not too busy. I suppose that is because it was on a weekday...

We had an amazing time, were able to unwind to the fullest, had beautiful scenery and exceptional staff. The breakfast (complementary) were out of this world. Every once in a while, we wish we had Wi-Fi that worked more effectively along with some of the creature features we've come to appreciate back home…but the point of the place is to be low-tech I suppose so just know what you're getting into and embrace it :-)
