“Classy, Elegant and Beautiful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 November 2013

I've been to Lake Louise several times and this time decided to stay at the Chateau. We had a standard room with two queen beds and a lake view. Sadly in November the lake is frozen, but I knew that before I came. Staff is beyond friendly and overly polite with everyone ! The hotel has amazing character, beautifully decorated, and ideally located. It is alittle more on the pricey side but no more so than any other place in Lake Louise (Unless you don't care where you stayed). Last time I visited the Post Hotel and paid $600 a night and here I paid $399 a night. The booked a suite at the Post but I'm pretty sure (Don't quote me) but I think The post runs $300-$400 a night as well for a standard. Also when I booked at the Chateau I could have got the room a $100 cheaper if I paid when I booked so just $299 for a standard room, which is a steal for this place. The chateau also boasts beautiful shopping and dining inside, as well as underground parking. My only 'annoyance' is with Parks Canada. They told us we were not allowed to remain at this hotel without a park permit ? I questioned it but bought it anyway. For future travelers you DO NOT need a park permit to stay here. This is at no fault to the hotel, but just for reference. You only need the pass if your parking outside of the hotel parking lot which we were not. Amenities are also amazing at the chateau with a 24/7 deli at your fingers; which is extra on top of the fine dining and regular dining areas. If you come to Lake Louise this is a great choice ! I don't recommend children. Perhaps it's because I don't have any, but I don't see this being the type of place that other guests would want young children in. Personal opinion is all.

My partner had always wanted to visit this hotel and although the hotel is quite old it is lovely and the views are spectacular. We were there for an Old Timers Hockey Tournament in town. The food was awesome and the staff very friendly. Our room, although small was very comfortable.

The hotel is from a bygone era overlooking Lake Louise and its glacier. If you hike ,the trails are well marked and you will find every caliber of trail. If you cross country ski , the trails are wonderful. Downhill is a short 10 min drive to some of the best snow in the world. The service , rooms and food are great.

Room Tip: Most face the Lake , so make sure you ask.

Can you believe it - we travelled from Israel to stay at the 'magnificent' Chateau Lake Louise having booked a 'top room' to be given on arrival a dump of a room overlooking the laundry. No view whatsoever over the steam gushing out of the air vents. We went there on recommendations and when we complained we were immediately moved to a Suite and they could not have done enough. But regretably it was the next day and it was already too late. My advice is to ask for the location of the room you book. Simply a disaster. Will never go back even though it has to be one of the most magnificent locations in the World.

Room Tip: Check the location of your room before you confirm.

This, as with the other Fairmont Hotels in Canada, is real luxury. This hotel also has spectacular vistas, as do the other Fairmonts in the Canadian Rockies. But it is pricey, as are the other Fairmonts. Not the kind of trip we can afford on a regular basis. We found the staff to be exceedingly friendly and helpful, and we had a wonderful room.

Room Tip: Get Lake View, although I think they attempt to provide a Lake View for everyone.

Lake Louise is one place I've always wanted to visit, with a stay at the Chateau being a must. We did have some issues with our stay - arriving a bit early at 1.30 we had to wait until 4.30-5 before our room was ready, requested crib wasn't provided, then no sheets or blankets were supplied, there was nowhere on site to purchase a carton of milk for our child (which resulted in a drive back to the town), and our prepaid breakfast got overlooked when we upgraded upon arrival, meaning I had to chase details on how we obtained breakfast. But there were many positives too. Our son loved the kids' check in area and scored another toy to take home, he also enjoyed the kids' room which was running between 5 and 6pm the night of our stay. We had originally booked a double queen room as this was the only option online when including a child in the booking, but we upgraded to a lake view with a king bed when we arrived. I'm glad we did. Although the lake was semi-frozen, so we didn't get that stunning blue colour you see in all the photos, it was still a beautiful view to wake up to. Breakfast offered a buffet or a la carte option (or we could have had room service). We went for the buffet and it was the best we've had on this trip. Food was fresh and hot and constantly changed over. Wide range of options including pancakes, crepes, fresh fruit etc - and the chocolate sauce was amazing! Overall, though it was expensive, it was also a once in a lifetime experience I'm glad we've had and will never forget.

I was kind of disappointed. The rooms are fine and the hotel is nice, but the whole hotel is less than friendly. The location is amazing and for that reason, we may stay again, but the hotel was more than double the cost of anywhere else that we stayed on our trip, and it was NOT the best. the hotel was just ok, BUT with a perfect view.
