I'd dreamed of staying here for years: uh oh, that could be a set-up for a major let down. It wasn't. Not at all. The hotel is lovely, the appointments are elegant, the service exceptional. The setting is drop-dead gorgeous. We stayed on the Gold level floor (hence the great service) with an incredible lake view. Just outstanding.

Room Tip: Lake view, gold floor!

While the location of this hotel is incredibly beautiful, all rooms are not created equal. You may pay more than $500 per night for a room in the old section of the hotel. For this privilege, you will have a musty room without air conditioning, and a hallway that smells of day old coffee. If you complain enough they will bring a portable air conditioner and will deodorize the room. You will short out your room if you happen to blow dry your hair while the air conditioner is on.... While the food is very good, the advertised " children eat free or half price" is not available at the deli and is not offered unless you ask. If you happen to forget, as we did once, too bad.
My advice: Find out where your room is located and don't use Expedia to book....prepare to pay a lot for food.

Room Tip: If your room faces the front of the hotel, you will hear the beeping of tour buses backing up at th...

Dear Chrisoula K,

Thank you for your review, and the time you took to post it. We truly do appreciate guest feedback, positive or negative.

I do apologize your recent stay was not up to the Fairmont standard, it seems you encountered issues revolving around room size & maintenance as well as distinct hallway scent. Please know I have shared your comments with our Director of Rooms and she is following up on the matter internally.

Although we are older and historic hotel, this does not justify a guest feeling any discomfort with their room. I would like to say that we are in the process of renovating a large portion of the older rooms, so as to always ensure our future guests comfort.

Please feel free to contact us directly at chateaulakelouise@fairmont.com to further discuss your stay. Thank you for choosing to stay with us and we look forward to welcoming you back at The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise.

Lake Louise is an amazingly beautiful place, and this hotel is the ultimate Lake Louise experience. The grounds are impeccable, the rooms are clean and modern, and the location is unbeatable. The hotel is pricey, but everything you need is right outside your door.

As a family of 5, we stayed in one of their suites, which worked out perfectly for us. Some guests complained that their room did not have air conditioning, but ours did. However, it gets so cold at night that if you leave your window cracked out you will be fine without it. The beds are extremely comfortable! We had a view of the parking lot unfortunately. The hotel at night was very quiet, noise was never as issue.
The hot tub seats about 16 people, but during the afternoon when everyone comes back from their hikes it can get very crowded.
The service is amazing. Everyone is extremely helpful and the concierge went way above and beyond. Our server from one of the restaurants wrote out 3 pages on where our family should go for hikes during our stay and had it sent to our room! Most of staff is very knowledgable about the hikes in the area.
There are about 4 or 5 dining options at the Chateau. All extremely expensive. The cheapest dinner we had was at the Glacier Saloon, where it was about 25$ per person. I would recommend driving to the village and eating there. Also the deli has food options (sandwiches are about 10$!).
Since Lake Louise is gaining popularity in the world, you can expect it to become VERY crowded from 10am-4pm when the buses of tourists arrive. However, we would always plan to start hiking at 9:30am so we would miss it!
The hikes around the Chateau are awesome. The most crowded is the Lake Agnes Tea House Trail, but it wasn't a problem. Definitely pretty steep and long, but take it slow and the views are worth it! Take plenty of water with you.
We did two guided hikes with the guides at the hotel and it was one of the best decisions. Those guides are SO knowledgable about everything in that park. They have hiked every peak you can see and they know which trails to take the family on. They also provided gear!

Room Tip: Get a view with a room! And away from the elevators.

We have frequented this hotel in the past, and each time it stands up to it's high reputation. We celebreated our 35 wedding anniversary, the staff were very attentive, helpful yet discreet. They made our stay very special. Our spacious room overlooked the lake, a spectacular view. We hiked to the Tea House in the afternoon, then relaxed in the Gold Lounge before our dinner. Again, the staff in the Wallister Stube resturant were so accomodating, the food was delicious. We have lived overseas in numerous countries, we continue to adore the Canadian Rockies and find the Fairmont Chateau Lake Lousie one of the best.

Room Tip: A view of the spectacular lake.

This was one of the best ever hotel experiences. We were fortunate to get a lake view room on a high level with stunning views of the lake and glacier. The restaurants are varied but all to a very high standard. Service is excellent and there are options for many excursions to lakes, mountains, waterfalls and glaciers. I would highly recommend the whole experience.

Room Tip: High lake view rooms are stunning

There's no doubt this is a spectacular location and the backdrop really is as stunning as the pictures show. The hotel is as big as the scenery, as is the price.

The staff were generally excellent, offering our kids towelling robes unprompted when we visited the swimming pool, arranging restaurant reservations etc.

The only spoiler was that one of our party went down with stomach cramps and vomiting about six hours after eating shellfish in one of the restaurants (Poppy Brasserie). The hotel security visited us to take some details and undertook to send samples of the food for testing but we never heard back despite inquiring.

So if you avoid the mussels and have deep pockets, this is a stunning place to stay. But it's also a great place to drop in on for an ice cream and to admire the view.
