“Return to an Old Favorite”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 July 2013

I recently ate here with a colleague to celebrate a career milestone for both of us. We had both had previous connections to the Kensington Riverside Inn, as it was where our employer arranged for us to stay when we came to Calgary for our interviews. It seemed fitting to come back here to celebrate.

The Chef's table is an outstanding restaurant. The ambience is excellent, with the bustle of the kitchen, the relaxed lounge area or, as we chose, the outside patio. The waiter service is attentive but not intrusive. Occasionally it's a little pretentious, but forgivable. The food is always of a very high standard. We enjoyed three courses with wine, and each was beautifully presented and perfectly cooked.

I think we were the last to leave and the waiters remained and said goodbye with a smile and a thank you. All up, a perfect evening in a close to perfect venue. I will always be happy to go back here, anytime.

The food is excellent. 2 friends of mine living in Calgary said they often go here for dinner because the food is so good and they were right. Restaurant compliments the quality of the hotel, or vice versa. Highly recommend.

“Overall Good”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 May 2013

Nice stampede breakfast sponsored by Banff ice vodka and yelp! Lemon ricotta pancakes were very delicate which is how I would describe the food at the inn. All dishes are very gently flavored wich sometimes is good as in the pancakes but sometimes is disappointing as in this morning's flavorless bacon or a previous dinners choice of rabbit 3-4 ways.

“Food Great - Atmos Lacking”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 May 2013

Food is awesome but the atmosphere is lacking. It maybe a subjective thing where I am not too find of the big square room with a few tables lined up but either way I appreciate a little more character. I have been a few times with groups of friends and wouldn't suggest it for a night out. Family dinner is a better fit.

Service is great and food is amazing so thats what important.

“open kitchen restaurant quiet and intimate”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 May 2013

For a small 10 table restaurant with an open kitchen, this one was pleasantly quiet, with no noisy rattling of plates and pots.
Menu and wine list offered plenty of choices. I particularly liked the meritage-style Chateau Angludet Margaux 2009 and its reasonable price. The food and presentation was excellent although I found everything a bit too salty for my taste. Breakfast was also a pleasant variety with lemon ricotta pancakes, feature omelettes and eggs beni. My Croque Madame was perfect but my potatoes didn't need that extra little sprinkle of finishing salt.
