Owner description: When you have the choice of everything from a thundering steam train to antique midway rides to beautifully preserved heritage buildings and homesteads, deciding what to do first isn't easy. Located in Calgary, Alberta, Heritage Park is Canada's largest living history museum, with hundreds of exhibits, rides, shops, restaurants and daily demonstrations and activities to keep the young and the young-at-heart captivated in the past. No two days at the Park are the same, so come back as often as you like for a history lesson you won't find in any textbook. Our operating season is from mid-May to early October each year.

Beautifully conserved park with good walking and cycling along the river. Well maintained but can be rather litter bound after a weekend of inconsiderate users.

A good place to spend the day with the family walking and checking out places. There are plenty of places to grab a quick bite to eat. Overall entertaining.

Kids love the old fashioned rides and the animals. It is like going back in time. I have a seasons pass and go with the grandkids regularly. Take a picnic lunch with you as it can get pricey if you have a large family for the food there.

We hadn't been to Heritage Park for years, even though we live in Calgary.

I used to go there often when my daughter was young because there are rides that are tame enough for young folks, even those as young as about 4. It is situated on our city reservoir and it has really nice landscaping around it. From certain vantage points, you could imagine that you are not in the middle of the city.

This time it was just my husband and myself who went - I still love the rides. And really, they have done a great job of this attraction.

It is one of those "old-time" themed attractions. They have moved and/or recreated houses from Calgary's past, and the employees are dressed in period gear, cooking as they did in "olden" days.

There is something for everyone. You can ride the steam train around the park, ride the horse-drawn carriage, watch skits unfold in the street on a seemingly ad hoc basis, go for rides, eat in a variety of eating spots, go for a paddle wheel trip around the reservoir, listen to a very informative skit about the train company's efforts to populate the west, bring a picnic and sit on the grass, and go to a period museum - and probably other things I've forgotten.

On a beautiful day, it is a great way to spend a good chunk of the day.
