Owner description: When you have the choice of everything from a thundering steam train to antique midway rides to beautifully preserved heritage buildings and homesteads, deciding what to do first isn't easy. Located in Calgary, Alberta, Heritage Park is Canada's largest living history museum, with hundreds of exhibits, rides, shops, restaurants and daily demonstrations and activities to keep the young and the young-at-heart captivated in the past. No two days at the Park are the same, so come back as often as you like for a history lesson you won't find in any textbook. Our operating season is from mid-May to early October each year.

Very interesting to see how the city of Calgary evolved over time. The people were in period and very enthusiastic about their jobs. We also were able to get in for half price. We could have spent most of the day in Gasoline Alley, but there is lots more to do and see with the train and boat being interesting attraction.

We visited late on a day trip to Calgary, but we were advised that there was too much to see at the Heritage Park to visit that day. We managed to re-schedule our trip to return for a day and we are really glad we did. It has something for everyone and is a really great day out offering good value too. A highlight of this year's Canada holiday. Alison

Excellent place to visit, especially if you have children! Very kid-friendly! Lots of activities to explore: the historical downtown with a fabulous Ice Cream Shop and Candy Store for kids of all ages! The Fairgrounds brought back wonderful memories of when I was a kid at the Fair. All the rides were from the good old days of being a child and I was impressed how the staff were dressed in the period dress code as well. The steam train was fun to ride on and the old steam boat ride down the lake looked like it would be fun as well. Looking through the old historical buildings were great and educational for the younger people and brought back memories for us older people. The streets were filled with old style transportation and horses. It was a fabulous day and I would thoroughly recommend Heritage Park to everyone!

We spent a very warm day wandering through Heritage Park. We hadn't been there in a few years so it was nice to see all the old, familiar buildings, the boat and the train. The train steams it's way around the park so you can view all the different places there are to explore. The lady in the ranch house was baking cookies, you could smell the lovely smell of fresh baking. We stopped for lunch at the Wainwright Hotel. There is a limited menu but the food was very good and our server, Charlotte, was wonderful. We then went to the bakery and stocked up on raisin bread, cinnamon buns and oatmeal raisin cookies, delicious! Time for a boat ride on the paddle wheeler, the S.S. Moyie. Out we went on the water, the cool breeze blowing in our faces and a lovely view of this part of Calgary. There is also an old fashioned midway with rides for the kids and the kids at heart. It was getting late so time to head home. We will be back.
Heritage Park is a wonderful place to learn about the history of Southern Alberta. Most of the buildings have been donated and moved to the park so what you see is the real thing, not something build on site. Sam Livingston's cabin, the Thorpe house, the Prince house (it's haunted), and the Wainwright Hotel are all donated buildings worth visiting. On your way in or out of the park, stop at Gasoline Alley and take a look at cars from the early 1900's. All in all, Heritage Park is a great place to spend a day, or you can get a park pass, like we did and visit many times a year.
