“A nice stop-over”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 August 2012

Enjoyed our stay for the most part. We had booked a room at the BW + Port'O'Call after picking our son up at the airport. The lobby is very nice with fireplace, cozy corners, tables, etc. Good location. Very fun waterpark, the original pool is also there in another area for people who want to relax and swim without a lot of children running around, free underground parking, lots of restaurant choices, etc. We were pleased with our stay - but the only real complaint is 'what is up with those elevators?'!! They were crazy and we were not the only ones having problems lol. I saw a man and his baby going up and down trying to get to the floor above mine but it kept going down to the parkade or lobby and then back up to my floor. He was looking distressed so I told him that I had trouble going on wild rides as well, so he might want to take the stairs. So he got off at my floor (his third visit to floor 3 lol) and went up the stairs. If you pressed the Down button, the elevator might be going up with someone else, but it would come back down to get you, and then not go back up for the previous occupants - very confusing! Using the room keys to work the elevator perhaps overloaded the system??

Also, we found out that you cannot use your room key to get to another floor above - we were looking for water but all of the machines were empty on floors 1 2 and 3, so we tried to go up to 4 in the elevator and it would not register our keycard (we were on floor 3), and we tried going up the stairs but were again stopped at the door to floor 4 because the key cards would not let us in. I went down to the lobby and asked front desk if there was somewhere else we could get bottled water and she immediately got us water from their back room so that was rectified immediately (thank you!) - but it was just a little bit crazy. I read through the hotel directory/info book in the room and did not see anywhere that states your keycard cannot be used on floors above your own, and we were not told that when we checked in. Good thing we were only there with ourselves and not friends or family booked on another floor. I realize it is probably a security issue, but we felt a bit ridiculous being 'locked out' of floors in the hotel we were staying in - just trying to find ourselves a machine with bottled water.

The elevator was the biggest 'problem' though. Everything else was totally fine. Nice room. Nice air controls, big tv on the wall (though we could not find a tv listings channel and went through them all one by one, and the channels do not match the ones in the hotel info book in the room), comfy beds, newer air conditioning control that worked perfectly, etc. But going for rides up and down the elevator with a group of other confused people who were also not getting to their correct floor was a little bit mind boggling. We used the stairs most of the time instead :) Oh and we did not know that you had to use the keycard to gain access to the parkade from INSIDE the hotel, so we had to go back up to the room to grab it, but we remembered after that ;)

Thank you for the stay. The water park was great for the kids - very busy but that was to be expected. A wedding was going on in the hotel that night but we could not hear the music at all - were surprised when heading for the parkade to find the party in full swing without a hint of sound at the floors above. Very busy hotel but for the most part, we enjoyed it and would recommend (with warning about going for interesting rides on the elevators lol)

Room Tip: Very clean rooms, lots of towels, very clean bathroom, just a busy hotel seeing as it's near the...

We had originally booked our stay in Calgary at the Sheraton Cavalier, a hotel we have frequently stayed at because of the great waterpark which our son loves. This past weekend, after checking in, we discovered the pool was closed. We promptly checked out and searched on our phones for a nearby hotel with a pool.

We found the Best Western Port O'Call and called and spoke with a very friendly gentleman who offered to save us a room while we drove over.

The outside of the hotel is a bit dated, as it's obviously an older hotel, however the inside is has been beautifully updated. Check in was a breeze and the same very friendly man was helpful and polite. Even told us about their half price tickets to the Calgary Zoo which came in handy the next day.

After dropping our stuff off in our huge, spacious and clean room we headed down to what we found out to be their new 8000 sq foot waterpark. Needless to say it was a hit with our son, and we loved the two hot tubs and waterslides. After an hour the pool started to get a little full, we went to get out and a hotel employee told us there was a second pool on the lower level that almost no one goes to. So we headed down there and had it completely to ourselves!

All in all, this hotel definitely made up for the Sheraton dissapointment. Big spacious rooms, polite staff and a stellar waterpark has definitely made this hotel our new Calgary destination!

Room Tip: If you had kids and are going for the pool, request a poolside room. They have doors that open right...

We recently stayed 2 nights in this hotel while visiting family in Calgary. The price was good and the room was clean. The key cards didn't always work in the elevators and one of the elevators was out of order quite a bit, but it didn't affect us terribly much. The water park was great fun! Our son loved it. The very best thing about this hotel?? The service! It was amazing. I had a minor emergency while staying there and had to get to a store while my husband stayed with our son. I don't drive my husband's truck and instead of offering to call me a cab the front desk got the shuttle diver to take me to the store and back! It was above and beyond and it was sooooo very appreciated. I would definitely stay again and I would recommend it to others.

Very nice hotel near the airport. Great beds, spacious room and nice bathroom. They have a waterpark in the hotel (wish our grand daugter had been with us). Easy check in & check out. Only stayed one night. Would recommend it for anyone with kids.

Pros:

-clean, spacious room with nice bathroom
-nice beds
-good little waterpark with two slides (would have liked an adult sized pool to swim some laps, but I guess you can't have everything); kept my son entertained for several hours
-friendly, helpful staff (the woman on the front desk brought a welcome bag with treats to our room - nice touch!)
-surprisingly quiet for being next to an airport!

Cons:
-not really much of a con, but the AC wasn't working when we arrived; it had frosted up inside, blocking airflowm, so no cold air was being blown out; however, hotel staff promptly fixed the problem (temporarily) by using a blow dryer to melt the ice; during our stay we had to turn the AC off a couple of times to let it defrost, but this wasn't a really big problem and the room never really got hot; they also told us they would have switched us to a new room if the hotel wasn't full, and also said they were going to swap out the unit for a properly working one once we left; and, to be fair, we were there during an unusually hot period, so this probably contributed to the the problem
-it's convenient to the airport, but you are surrounded by the kinds of things you would expect near an airport (some strip malls, industrial parks, the usual assorment of restaurants, heavy traffic, etc); you really have to drive into the city if you want to hang out downtown; for our needs, though, it was an ideal location for this trip

Overall, though, wouldn't hesitate to go back!

Stayed here one brief night before leaving Calgary. Staff was helpful when asked. I did witness 3 people behind the desk looking busy, but only actually one helping people check in, but the wait was short. It is a busy hotel with the water park and airport nearby--we also happened to be there during the "Stampede" so it was a little crazy. Elevators are lightning fast! Room was nicely decorated and average in size. Two sinks/mirrors...very handy. My colleague was fortunate enough to land a suite (booked a regular room and got a suite w/o asking) which had huge bedroom with its own full bathroom, HUGE living area with dining table, couch, loveseat and small counter area. TV in bedroom and living area and bathroom. Pretty sweet, unfortunately we had to take the 4 am shuttle the next morning and could not enjoy all the amenities of the hotel. Room I had was quiet and clean. Shuttle to airport was ON TIME and prompt...no waiting for stragglers. It was also full, so be sure to sign up at the front desk ahead of time. Restaurant: Not seeing any others in the area we opted to eat at the hotel. The air conditioner was out in the one side, so the staff recommended we eat in the bar. It was not busy, and the service was just fine. Food was quite good. Was impressed with the burger quality. I would recommend from my brief experience.
