This is a tired older hotel that in most other Canadian cities would be out of business or charging $75 per night. Unfortunately because of Calgary's booming business economy you will likely be spending an additional $100 a night.
So if you have to stay downtown bite the bullet and spend more at a better hotel. Alternaively ,stay close to the airport where prices are much more reasonable.

If you want a place to sleep this hotel is fine. The staff were very friendly. The rooms were ok.

The hotel is right in the middle of the souless business district of downtown. It is a 1970s city hotel updated a little.

It does have parking but they do not let diesel cars in - although I managed to sneak mine in!

The hotel bar is grim - do not go! There is an Irish bar across the street which is great. All in all I recommend this place if you are passing through on business (or as I was driving across country).

It's got parking, and it's got a great hotel restaurant serving hearty food an moderate prices.

In the congested office tower valley of Calgary's west downtown, the Ramada could survive with these and nothing else since there is only one other business-class hotel in this particular part of downtown. And chatting with the desk folks, I find that not only the oil companies and banks are located in western downtown, but also movie studios, recording studios and the "design district." So the clientele here at different times can be rather colorful. Add to that both fans and players for Calgary's several professional sports teams staying on the weekends. Then add geologists and agriculture-business people in flannel shirts and jeans. That makes this quite a different place.

There are certainly other mid-price hotels in Calgary, but they are mostly in the southeastern part of the city and not convenient to the downtown core.

I took some photos while at the Downtown Ramada. They *should* be attached.

Fairmont in town was booked, as a matter of fact a LOT of hotels were booked for the night we needed, so AMEX hooked us up with this place. I would not stay here again. We got an "executive floor" which meant you had to put your room key in the elevator to take you to the room, however, upon further inspection, there were stairs on either end of the hallway that were completely open for anyone to walk up or down on, a joke. Not that I care about a "secure floor". Our room was dirty and dark and had a small balcony overlooking the street. The patio had a half drunk bottle of wine with cigarette butts in it. The dresser drawers, had an empty bottle of booze in it, and some misc paper and hairs. The bathroom was awful, and small with a jail cell type feel. We just needed a place to sleep so we stuck it out. Instead of going out to dinner, room service seemed oddly cheap, so we ordered a club and the rice bowl. Surprisingly it was FANTASTIC. We both loved the food and the value. The street was filled with young college types screaming in the streets at all hours of the night which made for an unpleasant night sleep.
I would not reccomend this hotel and suggest you stay elswhere, the Hyatt looked beautiful just a few short blocks away.

we stayed at this hotel in august. we booked it for 3 nights hoping to have a relaxing stay on our journey across canada.as 2 women travelling we chose this hotel for it,s location and it,s amenities. On arrival the reception staff really could not be bothered to help us.As tourists we wanted to know where the nearest restaurants were located we were handed a out of date leaflet for 4 eateries. The hotel room was old and needed updating and smelt damp.
Our next day was saturday we had a day out returning to the hotel for our evening meal only to find the hotel restaurant closed , on enquiring we were told it would be closed that evening as they didn,t have any staff !!!.
On sunday it was to be open at 5.30 so we waited and went to eat at 6.30 to find it closed again apparetly they only had staff that would work for one hour on a sunday !!!!!!!! The not so friendly staff directed us to the bar which was attatched to the hotel as they did bar snacks not so much a bar as a 70,s pool hall complete with smoke ,dirt and unsavoury characters !!!!!!!!!
All in all i would say this hotel did not deserve the 3 star rating it was given and we would recommend other tourists not to stay here.

The Ramada Calgary is located near the restaurants and shops of Stephen Avenue Mall and close to many businesses and corporations. The room was o.k. - clean room, comfortable bed, adequte bathroom - although my view from the 6th floor was not very impressive (show the top of a smaller building and two larger buildings on each side).

The staff at the reception desk were extremely friendly and helpful. They were able to answer most of my questions and provide me with assistance on directions.
