“Very Old Hotel”

Let me first say - the day time staff and maintenance staff are fantastic.

The rooms are small, very old, moldy and there were holes in the shower. No television for 2 of the 3 nights and the power in the bathroom kept going off. The breaker on the upper floors was switching so it had to be fixed by maintenance. The restaurant is ok but pricey.

A remodel is highly recommended.

An impressive little downtown hotel. Valet parking with your windows washed is a nice touch. Friendly check-in. Wide corridors. Because it is downtown, the view was of the office next door -- and there were still folks working when we arrived. Despite the multiple Christmas parties within the hotel, everything was mouse quiet. Clean room. Lots of pillows to snuggle in for the night. No complaints.

Room Tip: End of the hall - maybe that was why our room was so quiet. These rooms have a third door so that yo...

Honestly 200 dollars to see mold in bathroom (on the cord of the air dryer). Walls were paper thin and I had an alcoholic rubby next door coughing and hacking all night. It sounded like he was in my room. When I complained at 3 in the morning, they advised me there was nothing they could do. The bathroom door was half size and you have to turn sideways to get past door and sit on toilet. Unbelievable - When I complained in the morning, they just took my money and would not even acknowledge my less than stellar experience.

We thought the hotel had a nice high-end look about it, especially with the impressive reception area. The room was very clean and the beds were comfortable and luxurious, though the double bed was on the small side. Unfortunately, the air conditioning was out of order for most of our night there, so we had to open the window. This was OK because we were on the 5th floor, but there were some random noises from outside at times. The bathroom was a nice size, with shampoo, soap, lotion and conditioner provided, but the door was stiff and had to be shoved to get the lock to engage. Wifi was free and easy to connect to, but it was quite slow during my short session. No fridge or safe, but there was good coffee making facilities and an iron+board. The location seems good, but we were only there for an overnight stay so didn't go exploring. It was an easy walk to a chinese restaurant and Safeway was a bit further on the map, but we didn't make it because it was late- not sure if it was usual, but the streets were almost completely deserted at 8:30-9pm during our night there in early/mid September. Breakfast starts at 6:30am, which was too late for us since we were leaving at 6:05am on a Brewster tour, but to our pleasant surprise, we found a small table serving free coffee with some muffins and pastries in the lobby, which we helped ourselves to. So our stay ended on a high note. Would give this place another go if we were ever in Calgary again.

We booked this on hot-wire.com and it said it was 2.5 star, we weren't expecting much but it exceeded our expectations. It was relaxing and clean. Definitely recommend it. Staff were all friendly and helpful
