“My second stay was as excellent as the first!”
Reviewed 11 September 2009

This was my second stay at the Hyatt Rgency Calgary, and the third stay for my husband. I returned after only four weeks for another getaway weekend. Again, everything was so clean and new, and the rates were unbelievable for the first class experience you receive. The rooms were clean and up-to-date, the pool, sauna, hot tub, and exercise facility were top notch! They had these amazing face cloths in the exercise room that were soaked in some kind of minty water and placed in a fridge, they were so refreshing. My only complaint is that the steam room didn't seem to be too reliable. Our stay included the breakfast buffett that is sooooo delicious and fancy! I highly highly recommend this hotel to all who visit Calgary and want a first class experience, I couldn't find one thing wrong! This is definately "my" Calgary hotel.

The hotel is good, but nothing too exceptional. I stayed here for a conference as the first choice hotel the Palliser was booked. Based on the price compared to the Palliser and after visiting both, I would not select this hotel. The rooms are fine and so is the hotel, but for the price, it disappoints, especially when you go down the block and step into the Palliser. I was not impressed that I had booked a smoking room and then they gave it away and I had to switch rooms the second day to get a smoking room and when it is november in calgary, you really do not want to have to go down several floors and stand outside to smoke. Service was nothing exceptional, staff was pleasant enough, but I would choose otherwise if in the same area again.

Love this hotel. Great location (although construction around it). Had some issues and it was immediately taken care of. Good food, great service. Stayed 2 nights on the club level. Did a lot of shopping and went to the zoo. Public transportation is right at the side of the hotel and goes all over town. Will stay there again.

For another hotel chain I could have given a higher rating, but for the price I expected more. The room with the king bed is not small, but I would not call it spacious, either. Same goes with the furniture, nice, but nothing particularly memorable, either. The daytime staff was very friendly and attentive, but the nighttime could be better. In general, I don't see anything that sets this Hyatt apart from other respectable and sort of high end chains. Well, OK, the respectably stacked gym and the indoor swimming pool had a nice view of downtown. :) In the end, I would not pay much more than, let's say a Holiday Inn, to stay here.

Parking is very pricey at $25 a night. WiFi is $14 per day. At this day and age, even cheap motels now provide free WiFi. At a downtown luxury hotel with business travelers, this is too much nickel and diming.

The location is hard to beat. One of its entrances opens up to the pedestrian only street, Stephen Ave Mall. There are many restaurants, pubs and some clothing stores along that street. However, the area had fewer people around than I would expect on a late Sunday afternoon. Maybe, it is due to a lack of coffee shops and bookstores.

The room was nice, clean and spacious with some views. If you stay there just for the night, it is not worth paying the high rate. It did not provide any extra amenities that I expected from high end hotels, such as refrigerator, microwave oven, complimented bottle water, chocolates. I stayed at some 3-star hotels, they provided those extras. There was a $25, 00 fees for the parking (no discount for the tenant). The worst, I was trying to find a space in the refrigerator to store my food, I pulled the flap, the can came out and I wouldn't put it back. I had to pay $3.50 for the soda can. Is this the way to make money, refrigerator only for the selling items? I felt being cheated (Who would read the sign in the refrigerator, "If you pull the flap, no refund can be made”).

About 15 minutes Taxi ride from Calgary International Airport. Taxi readily available just outside baggage claim and cost about $37 CAN. Clean modern room with flat screen tv.
Helpful and nice staff. Has in-room safe. We did not use parking...taken taxi there and rent a car from Budget which is 1 1/2 short blocks from hotel and much cheaper (about
40%)compare to renting at Calgary airport (watch for lots of taxes add on for airport).
You can rent a car at downtown location and return at Airpor location with no extra charge
Hotel is right on Stephens Walk, pedestrian only during daytime with some shops and lots of eating places. One block from Calgary Tower (like Seattle space needle), attached to Convention center and museum, 2 blocks down to Chinatown area and one block from park (at summer time has free music and so on). Great to walk around, nice quiet safe hotel, need room key for elevator to go up to your room. Nice exercise and indoor pool (on the 5th floor). Did not eat at the hotel so cannot comment. Marriott hotel is 1/2 block away so it may be your option if location is important. Downtown area at night during weekdays is kind of quiet and most stores closed by evening.

Stayed at the Hyatt August 1 - 3 / 2009
- Front desk staff were great, very friendly and professional
- Hotel location was one block from the Calgary tower and right on Stephen Avenue, a street filled with patios and lounges, great restaurants and shopping.
- Hotel condition was great, rooms were clean and up to date. The LCD TV was a nice perk.
- Pool and spa were modern and clean and there was a sauna as well. Only complaint about the pool area was a few tiles missing from in the hot tub seating area.
- Fitness center was in great shape and provided an amazing view from the 18th floor of the hotel to the South/West of the city.
- The 'Regency Club' was a nice perk for guests with this privilege including large screen TV and complimentary internet (which happened to not be working while we were there due to technical issues).
