“Pay for Gold and get it!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 August 2013

I stayed here on the Gold upgrade package and got an extra large room, turndown service and other minor benefits. The big plus of this package is the access to the Gold Lounge on the top floor. This provides an excellent relaxed breakfast, evening snacks and an honesty bar. The concierge service is also a brilliant add on as the staff are really efficient, kind and courteous. I would especially mention Jon, Stephanie, Dawn and Corinne who went out of their way to be helpful.

The hotel itself is an an excellent location for downtown Calgary and there are lots of good restaurants, bars and stores nearby. It's within easy walking distance of museums, restaurants and parks. Although it is in the grand railway style it is well modernised and whilst it backs onto the CP freight line if you ask for a quiet room it's not a problem. For me a big plus was the lovely pool and gym which were never too busy, again staffed by helpful personnel.

My 11 nights here felt like a holiday not a business trip!

Room Tip: Ask for gold upgrade and a side room (quiet) hotel.

Booked this hotel as I was told it was a 4 star. Was looking forward to a nice romantic weekend away with my wife.
We paid for the Jr Suite, which according to the photos on their website look beautiful. What we got was an outdated room with a worn and dirty rug. The bathroom was tiny!
The room was very dark and there was always care taking carts with dirty linens and room service plates outside our door you had to navigate around.
We paid for a corner suite with a view; the view was a window that looked out to the suites opposite us in the next tower! No city view as they described on the website.
For what we paid I would not come back...

Room Tip: Not worth the money they charged for the room!

This is a place to go, if you want to experience the historical saturated atmosphere in cold winds of Calgary or the hot summers. Excellent room standard. Very good service. All modern facilities like fast internet and good business support. Excellent breakfast restaurant. Very good bar. Very nice gym and swimmingpool. Keep the kids out, this is not a hotel for them. Enjoy.

Hello there,

We’re happy to hear you see our 99-year-old property as so and that you appreciated our room and service standards. It’s also great to hear you enjoyed your dinning and lounging experiences with us. We also feel we can cater to children, but understand your perspective of our luxury more mature offerings.

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights. The room is clean and lobby is beautiful. Services is very good as well. The location is very convenience to get around in downtown. The Calgary Tower is right beside it.

Fairmont Palliser is a beautiful old hotel. Our two night stay in a large king room was great. Our room was clean, nicely decorated and very comfortable, with desk and chair, couch, and great bed with wonderful linens and pillows. We enjoyed the Oakville lounge and had excellent service on three visits with special attention to our gluten free request. The buffet breakfast was excellent. Staffer Carole entertained us at breakfast with an explanation of the mural on the back wall of the dining room and the history of the hotel.

I stay here 10-15 nights a year for work and I love it. The rooms are clean and the service is second to none. The beds are super comfortable and I always have a great sleep there.

My only issue is the size of the workout area in the gym. However, that is not enough to make me change my mind about the quality of the hotel.

Be sure to sign up for the Presidents Club so you can get free wifi. It's not the fastest but it does the trick.

The location is great. You're about a 10 minute walk from the Red Mile and there are lots of restaurants within a 2 minute walk on Stephen Ave.

Highly recommend the Palliser for the business and holiday traveller.

Room Tip: Ask for the renovated floors.
