As with other Fairmont properties, the hotel itself is grand and beautiful. The restaurants are good, the food also good though pricey, but that is to be expected. Location excellent if you want to stay downtown. As for customer service, this is the worst service I've received at a Fairmont. Our first night, my wife and I were woken at 5 am by someone showering and flushing their toilet. Then came the street traffic noise. When I spoke with the front desk, they told me that there have been many complaints about room noise and that the hotel was "looking into" resolving the issue. The problem is that the walls are paper thin thus we are privy to our neighbours personal activities. As for street traffic, the hotel has not double paned or upgraded the windows to 21st century technology. Our last night here, at 6 am we hear a voice from the hallway intercom telling us that an alarm went off and the hotel "will keep us informed as to whether there is an emergency". This message was repeated several times before a new message was broadcast telling us that it was a false alarm. Did the hotel really have to tell us anything? Why interrupt everyone's sleep with a ridiculous message? If there is an emergency and we have to evacuate, then yes, tell us. If not, don't ruin our sleep. Bottom line: if sleep is important to you and you want a good night's rest, do not stay here.

Room Tip: If you want to sleep at all, be sure to get a room that does not face the street.

Recently stayed at this Hotel for the night, with terrible results.

First of al I had been staying at Fairmont Hotels recently throughout the North West with great results, the one in Calgary was a disaster.

My main belief and objective is to have a good nights sleep...not too much to ask?
My wife and I were given a room on the 5th floor that was right next to a "Train Yard".
At 2:45AM a train came through, horn and all. Again at 4:50, same routine.
Were not talking a light sleeper here, none of the 10 previous stays at this Hotel chains other locations were a cause for any night time wake up.
When I complained to the desk I was offered a free breakfast, I would trade that anytime for a good nights sleep.
Don't stay at this luxury Hotel if a good nights sleep is on your menu.

Room Tip: Stay away from all rooms on the same side as the RR Tracks (I don't know if the train can be heard from the other side).

Hello Marty,

We regret to hear about your experience with us specifically regarding the trains. We unfortunately are unknown to the schedule, in which the trains pass by, and they're truly unique to their own times - we're a historic property that was built on the tracks to help connected Canada by rail in 1914. Though, today, they can certainly be more of an inconvenience than we would ever hope for our guests.

We hope to have you be our guests again soon - when the trains- are also sleeping.

Best,
Jacqueline Tyler

We stayed there over the weekend and found it was perfectly located to walking around downtown. The front desk staff was very helpful and made our short trip a nice one. The room was very nice and quiet.

The parking lot is difficult to find and fee is expensive, and the passageway smell not good like mushroom, the room is small and little noise in night, However, the location is perfect, every wonderful place near the hotel

Hello Fan,

We're happy to hear you found our location in downtown Calgary convenient! And thank you for your feedback on the accessway into the hotel off the parkade - we take our guest comments to heart and we have been looking into a couple options for signage etc., to make it more easy.

Best,

We stayed at the Fairmont Palliser for an anniversary getaway and were blown away! We've stayed here before but this time was over the top. We had a penthouse suite which was huge and beautiful. We were pleasantly surprised when we came back to our room to find a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries and a card wishing us a happy anniversary. The breakfast was amazing as well as the hot and cold appetizers they provided. The whole experience was luxurious and wonderful.. We will go back next year for sure!!
