We stayed at the Fairmont in Calgary at the end of our drive across the Rockies from Vancouver.
Very impressive lobby and hall at this city centre hotel. On arrival we were disappointed not to be located next door, or even on the same floor, to our travelling companions but our request for a move could not be accomodated!
The room was large but very dark so needed a light or lights on all day long. This was partly due to the dark wood furniture and partly due to there being 2 fairly small windows overlooking another wing of the hotel. I was surprised there was only one drawer in our room for clothes and no safe! Comfortable beds, chair and settee.
We dropped our car at the airport to save on parking charges at the hotel (which are quite excessive), and I think that getting a taxi to and from the airport was the cheapest option with least hassle.
We were surprised to find Calgary was a city with skyscapers (I know we should have done more research) and on reflection we should have stayed 2 days at Banff with a drive to the airport on the last day.
Had continental breakfast in the hotel on one day and this was OK but a bit pricey at $22 CAD. Better value is available nearby. The hotel restaurant was quiet at night and at breakfast which suggests people find it too expensive and prefer a more lively environment. There is a street full of bars and restaurants 1 block and 5 minutes away.
Very comfortable large lobby with lots of comfy chairs and settees to sit and/or play cards
Overall the old lady is fading away, albeit gracefully, and needs some investment to compete in the modern hotel world. I would probably stay there again but would look also at competitors in the area.

Arrived by taxi at around 9pm. No offer for assistance with the bags. Had to lug them up the stairs myself.

Their registration area is confusing. I am a Fairmont Premier Member. They make it difficult to see what line (of the two available lines) is actually for Presidents Club Members). Apparently I was not in the right one because they said they needed to serve the other line first.

Lobby is nice just like all Fairmont Hotels. Like most people mention - if you are use to a hotel like the Fairmont Vancouver, Chicago, etc... These are old and small rooms. It was clean; however the AC did not work well at all. It was quite warm in the room. I believe the hotel is starting renovations soon. They need it.

There were also several burnt out lights in my room. You expect more from Fairmont for sure.

Location is fantastic... But for the next trip I would most likely pick the newer Germain Hotel or Marriott a block down the street.

I had booked the room online and had problems when it confirmed the reservation. I took a screen print and sent it to the hotel asking if the reservation was made accurately. I received a phone call soon after confirming the reservation and price. Hotel's speed of response was good.

However, when we got there, I asked at check-in if she knew if our truck would fit in their parking. Front desk advised me to speak with the concierge. The concierge said it would fit in the Valet parking but didn't know what the height restriction was in the self park, he thought it may be 6' 6". So we drive up the ramp that bends, since it did NOT say at the bottom, to find out the height restriction is 6' 4" (we believe it was more like 6' 2" by the look of the bar height). We then needed to back down the ramp to get out. In the meantime, other vehicles have pulled in behind us... Yes you can picture the fun we had. Not a good start to the evening. We got out of the parkade, an obviously have to pay the $30. for valet parking.

We get to our room, and although I realize it is an old hotel, I was disappointed to find the carpet extremely old, warn, and very lumpy. The bathroom was inconvienent, the toilet is directly behind the door and the toilet paper is a reach as it is located under and behind the sink counter. The floor was dirty along the tub base and under the sink. The shower had what appeared to be black mold in it, so we opted to not shower and head directly home to our own shower.

We did go look at the pool but did not go in it. By the look of the pool area it was clean and inviting.

Overall, I agree with the previous review, we would not book the Palliser again with so many other choices in the same price range near the same location.

The faimont in Calgary is case and point for once-great chains living off their names. The lobby is sort of nice, in an old money kind of way if you're into that. but the rooms are old, somewhat dirty and dated. The worst thing is the bed duvet covers. The duvet itself is simply sandwiched between two loose bed sheets. This means that unless you are able to stay perfectly still all night, you will end up with the unprotected duvet on your face and body. This is just gross when you think of the kind of things going on in hotels, and enough to not make me want to stay there again. There are some better, newer places for less money available.

We booked our Hotel via Expedia 91,93 € for one night to start our trip in Alberta. The Hotel is located in the centre of Calgary, 30 minutes away from the airport. After arriving in the lobby, we got a good first impression. The staff was really friendly and helped us with luggage and recommended us restaurants and bars for nightlife. Rooms were a little bit small, but sufficient for one night and clean. We also found a complementary newspaper on the doors the next morning. If you book this hotel in advance you can get a cheap, excellent Hotel for your stay in Calgary

We stayed for 2 nights with our dog. The service is very good - lobby and hallways very nice. However, the room was in need of updating in every way. Realizing the hotel is heritage, the rooms are smallish. Our was on the 9th floor (941) - small. One Queen bed. The furniture was way too big for the room. I agree with another reviewer that rooms were furnished en mass, with no individual thought given to individual rooms. When returning from a trip to the loo in the middle of the night, I banged into the way too large desk adjacent to the bed (also serves as night table for that side of the bed) and now have a lovely large bruise on my thigh. The other night table is way too large as well. The two occasional chairs in the room were just done - uncomfortable and no springs left. The bathroom taps are horrible - no finish left and the tap is so close to the sink that my husband couldn't cup his hand under water to rinse while shaving. What would it take to replace the bathroom taps? Other reviewers have posted photos showing the same thing. Bed comfy. Location noisy. Parking - really bad - it's a block away and $37/night for valet parking. We parked one night on the street and one night we self parked at the hotel for $9 overnight. We travelled with our dog - no acknowledgement of him made at checkin and no doggie bags, treats given. For a Fairmont, this hotel is disappointing and for the money spent, it didn't live up.

Having stayed at many fairmont properties, this hotel was terrible. We were placed in a "smoking optional" room against my wishes, and it was so smelly it was impossible to sleep. The bathroom was so small, that you couldn't sit on the toilet without bumping your knees into the tub and sink. Parking is not convenient - a full block away. Rooms are all old and outdated, and not clean. Staff was rude, and hotel was noisy. Only plus is the location. PLEASE look elsewhere if you expect a clean, quality hotel. I would have chosen a hotel 6 instead had i known.
