This fairly well kept and remarkably compact precinct is tucked between the Bow River and the Eau Claire district. What’s most striking about it are the many signs of a strong civic pride and a sense of historical and cultural identity. The glorious and distinctive Cultural Center is only the easiest to find among these signs. The precinct’s Sien Lok Park has a wonderful stone monument with brass plaques full of Chinese cultural symbols and historical sentiments. By all means, bring a camera! On the streets are all of the varied Asian restaurants, specialty grocers, and martial arts studios anyone might expect. Some of the options seemed downscale, others more upscale. None of these were open when I explored the streets on early morning walks, but seeing them was worthwhile. And they're a welcome source of dining options for the more adventuresome among us.
