We all know that Calgary is not the most affordable city in terms of finding a good and inexpensive hotel. That's why I decided to give this new Best Western"s property a chance and can not complain about it. Friendly staff, smooth ckeck -in/out, nice property, beautiful room and comfy bed, included hot breakfast, free parking etc.....All that for 130 CAD a night for 2 is what I call a GOOD DEAL !

Couldn't get into my usual choice - the excellent B/W Port O' Call - so thought I'd give this shiny new property a try. Glad I did. It's very close to Calgary International Airport - less than 2K away. The Freeport Inn's shuttle service had me there in a blink. It's off the highway in a small (but growing) industrial park area...in fact, you'd never know it was there unless you drove down to the end of Freeport Blvd. That puts it pretty much in the middle of nowhere, in terms of local dining or shopping options. Fortunately there is a small licensed lounge/grill just off the foyer, and a decent continental breakfast. The Acclaim Hotel a short distance up the street also has an on premise Italian restaurant if you need something more than the Freeport's currently small menu offers.

Architecturally it is quite nice, and has an attractive appearance as you pull into the large surface parking lot out front. The decor inside is equally appealing, with good use of natural light. All of the staff that I interacted with were friendly, accommodating and professional, and overall the service was excellent.

The lounge also serves as the continental breakfast bar, and it scores green points for using actual silverware and ceramic dishes/mugs in place of the disposables found elsewhere.

The fitness room is quite spacious, with two treadmills, an elliptical, a stationary bike and a universal machine. Yoga mats and a dumbbell rack would round it out, though.

My room was a step up from the standard room and featured a sitting area separated from the king bed by a double-sided gas fireplace. Very nice! Modern, tasteful decor throughout, with a mix of light earth tones and dark espresso. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. I especially appreciated the abundance of electrical outlets in the room. If you have gadgets, you won't have any trouble finding a place to plug them in. WiFi was serviceable, but not particularly fast.

Like some of the other reviewers here, I found the HVAC to be...touchy. Hard to find a balance between too warm and too cool. Plus, when the fan was on it was a bit noisy. Hopefully these are start-up issues that will be resolved.

In summary the Best Western Port O' Call would still be my first choice - it just has more amenities, better access to dining and shopping, and a certain charm - but the Freeport Inn is a fine alternate choice especially those flying in/out of YYC.

We were flying home the next day after an eleven day trip through the Canadian Rockies. This hotel was a great way to end our trip! The reason for choosing this Best Western was the proximity to the Calgary Airport, along with its free shuttle service. The hotel is brand new, and the rooms are beautiful. The staff were very accomadating, with a great front desk staff. Since this hotel is in an area with no other restaurants, we had to eat at the hotel lounge/restaurant that had a very limited menu. The service was great, but the food was lacking. Hopefully, in the near future they will implement a full restaurant. The hotel does provide a market pantry for items that you can microwave in your room. So if you need a place to stay near the Calgary Airport, but don't require a regular meal, this is your hotel!

Myself and my family (including a 5 yr old) stayed at this hotel for two nights. We were in Calgary due to medical appointments. The reservation process was smooth, checking in was very pleasant. The front desk staff were personable and cheerful. Lots of laughs with them! The room extremely nice and comfortable - we stayed in a King Suite on the 4th floor. The pool was lots of fun, cool slide! The included breakfast exceeded expectations!

The entire staff that we encountered were very easy going, remembered us each time we saw them and always eager to help with anything we needed. We requested late check out and it was no problem at all.

Upon check out, we mentioned about some kids running around on our floor the previous night that we had to speak to in order to get them to quiet down as our child was sleeping. The staff were very apologetic, even though it was not their fault, and we were left with the impression it would be addressed with the adults of the group (there was a hockey team staying at the hotel).

The only negative we have is that no pets are allowed. We have two small non shedding and well behaved Bichon Shi-tzu dogs and we had to leave them in our vehicle during our stay which we do not like doing as they are family. It was our choice to stay even though knowing the dogs could not but maybe it could be something the hotel could consider allowing at a future time. We have stayed at many Best Western Hotels and have always been allowed our dogs to stay with us. We understand it is their policy and it will not stop us from staying again, we will just have to make other arrangements for our dogs.

Over all, a great experience and will definitely return soon.
