Skyline Luge Calgary

Attraction details
Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: With more than 50 twist and turns and covering a distance of over 1800 metres on a continuous downhill trajectory, the Skyline Luge in Calgary is the longest in the world and is certain to bring smiles to the faces of both the young and old this summer. Sounds awesome (and it is)........but what is it exactly? Invented in New Zealand in 1985, Skyline Luge is a unique wheeled gravity ride that provides the rider full control over their descent on a purpose built track. The unique braking and steering system control speed and direction - it's easy to learn and is suitable for people of all ages and abilities. But most of all - it's fun, great fun! The simple enjoyment of hurtling down the track in the specially constructed Luge kart as you navigate the twists, turns and bumps never fails to make adults giggle like children. And the children will beam with excitement, before hopping back on the chairlift to the top so they can do it all again. Those under 6 years old (or less than 110cm tall) can even share a ride with Mum or Dad, so no-one misses out and the whole family gets to have some safe fun. In fact, over 30 million people have enjoyed the Luge worldwide and their comments have led to the Luge slogan; 'Once is never enough'! And it's not. Most are hooked after their 1st Luge ride. It's easy to master and soon you'll notice yourself moving to the chairlift a little quicker, not quite running, but certainly walking fast.....all so you can get back to the top and do it again as soon as possible! It's thrilling, it's exciting and it's perfect for a family, a group or a team. In fact, just about anyone can enjoy the Luges. The universal appeal is what has made Luge a success in New Zealand, Singapore and Mt Tremblant already. Skyline Luge Calgary is owned by New Zealand based Skyline Enterprises. An innovative and leading tourism company, Skyline Enterprises have a portfolio of iconic tourism products within New Zealand and international Luge sites in Singapore and Canada.

“Fun!”
Reviewed 17 September 2013

I'm writing this review for hubby since he doesn't have a trip advisor account. He loved the luge itself. Though he has an aversion to heights so he didn't enjoy the lift to get up to the luge. He wanted to walk up the hill but they wouldn't let him. I can understand that. They're probably worried that in case some piece of machinery hits someone & injures them they might be liable. But maybe they could have a walkway for those who do want to walk up the hill to the luge starting point. That would be great exercise for one thing. LOL. Hubby would've gone for more than one ride if it wasn't for the lift.

“Amaizing”
Reviewed 7 September 2013

What an unexpected joy!! This is such an amaizing must do attraction. There were five of us, my wife and I and our three kids 6, 12, and 15. We purchased two rides which is good because once would not have been enough. We were unsure if our petit 6 yr old daughter would be able to controll the car herself so she was able to ride on my wife's lap for only a few bucks more. What rush of racing down that hill!! Everyone had a great time. Value wise it wouldn't be an everyday thing but more than worth it on vacation!

“Heaps of fun! Once really isn't enough!”
Reviewed 5 September 2013

Took our family from England to the Luge whilst they were here this summer. Everyone LOVED it! We had to wait around a little as there had been lightening in the local area, and they do not run the chair lifts. I would rather wait and be safe!
Their slogan of 'Once is Not Enough!' was very true. 1 adult, a 15 yr old, a 13 yr old and a 9 yr old all agreed and wanted to head up for more!!!
The staff were very friendly and chatted to the customers rather than each other...this was very pleasant!

“So much fun!”
Reviewed 4 September 2013

This was a blast! I highly recommend this to anyone! There was six of us (age 11 to 38 years old) and we all had a blast! You definitely need to purchase more than one run. You pick out your helmet and then you go to the line and take a chair lift to the top and they give you a safety briefing about how to use the wheel car. Then you go down the 1.8 km track how ever fast or slow you want to go. If you purchased more than one run, you would take the chair lift up back to the top and get into the 2nd ride line and you get to go again without the safety briefing. This is fun for the whole family!

“Really good fun - you need more than one run!”
Reviewed 28 August 2013

Skyline Luge looks a lot of fun on all the YouTube videos and it doesn't disappoint. My girlfriend and I visited a couple of weeks after it opened but it was a slick operation and all the staff were very friendly and welcoming.

It's a good mix of anticipation on the 1st ride up the chairlift, going over the top of the track (really good views of dowtown Calgary off to the left and the luge/bobsleigh/skeleton track to the right), then a quick safety briefing at the top and away you go! I'm sure you're not travelling all that fast but sitting right on the floor you feel like you must be going at least 50mph! You can lean into the bends and really keep some good speed round the corners as you zoom down overtaking people and trying to catch others up. Had a really good race with a guy on my 2nd run - I was later on the brakes but he was quicker through the corners overall!

Then of course as you purchased more than one run you get back on the chairlift to discuss how much better you'll be this time with your group and go and do it all again! And at the top they can see your hand has been stamped so you can get straight on with the fun - no briefing 2nd time round.

We only had 2 runs each as I was booked in to do the Zipline from the top of the ski-jump otherwise would have stayed there for ages - throughly recommended!
