Breakfasts were varied in content but always included fruit, breads and egg dishes. Food was hot, attractively served and delicious

“Great b/f at the hotel”
Reviewed 21 May 2014

The breakfast was included with our room rate.

Was perfect since we were hitting the road early - they had everything - variety of breads and baked goods, hard boiled eggs, jams, coffee, tea, milk, cereal, fruit.

I had a good, basic breakfast, including fresh fruit. There was also coffee and juice and some pastries.

“Limited but decent quality, with caveats”
Reviewed 25 March 2014

This is the small bistro in the Hotel Alma on the U Calgary campus. It has a limited selection of entrees, apps and deserts. The food is modern bistro. It's reasonably good but not exceptional. They seem to do fresh by season while facing the constraint that they do a limited business and so most of the items need to be very easy to prepare. Compared to a bistro I might select in a major urban area, this would be disappointing. Compared to restaurants located in mid-range hotels, this is very pleasant and creative. Limited by good quality wine list. But be careful to order things that stand up well to being simple/ pre-prepped. My desert of chocolate pates was very hard/ frozen.

“Limited but delicious options. Decent Wine list”
Reviewed 16 February 2014

I've been to Hotel Alma 3 times now and always spend time in their restaurant/bistro. Modern-artistic decor is enjoyable, but wish they would turn the lights down in the evening. It always feels very institutional and this isn't necessary since there are lamp and chandelier fixtures in addition to overhead pot lights. The menu has limited options but they should please avid foodies. Salads are with mixed greens, cheese, nuts for example, fresh (though get dressing on the side or it will be swimming in it). There is a savoury butter chicken, a caramelized onion quiche, and decent flatbread as appetizer. Sometimes good soups. There is one appetizer of spiced nuts for very low price, but it remains elusive to the frustration of myself and colleagues who have visited. It is the #1 we want to order with wine/drinks but in many months and visits, they have always "run out". Overall it is a nice place in general for Calgary's NW region, a good option among very few for the area. Definitely nice for wine and snacks. Parking is probably best in Arts Parkade. Sadly if you are not staying at the hotel parking on campus is obnoxiously expensive (four per hour!!!)
