“Lunch cassoulet great”
Reviewed 8 August 2013 via mobile

Huge white beans baked with French mini garlic sausages (Mergueses ?) in a wonderful sauce

2 grilled lamb chops served on top (see photo)

Served screaming hot, be patient as it took 20 min to get it and another 15 to cool down enough to eat it

Great bread and olive oil

“Best fries ever.... But not much more”
Reviewed 9 June 2013

First, this place is pricey. Entrées are in the 30 to 45 dollar range. Second, this place is French. So, one would expect superior service and exceptional cuisine. But neither was the case. Service was just bad, and food hit and miss.

As noted, fries were exceptional. As was a rack of lamb, and appetizers were very good. However, fish soup was plain, uninteresting. Meat entrées were bathed in sticky sweet sauce that hid flavour and was overwhelming. Sides were not selected according to dish, but a standard choice of pasta, potato, fries, etc. Not acceptable for this price range.

Service was terrible. Rushed at first, then it just stopped. One dish was cleared, then the rest sat, and sat, and sat. Then two more were taken away, and one was just left alone, to sit. No offers of drink refills, no check on satisfaction. A dish that we did not like was politely returned, and in return we received a smirk and a menu was, literally, tossed at my wife.

Skip this place, Chaumiere is vastly better in terms of food and service.

“French? Not So Much!”
Reviewed 27 April 2013

I guess I am lucky, in that I have had the opportunity to eat French food in many different parts of France. French cuisine is one of my favorites, from rustic cafe style food, to more indulgent restaurant fare. I had heard from a friend that Fleur de Sel was a great place to go in Calgary for French food, so I was looking forward to my visit.

The experience was a huge disappointment. The food was really not very good... not at all tasty and such a muddle. The meat was overcooked and yet not that hot when it was served. The service was poor and the restaurant had a cramped feel, even though we were two out of only perhaps 6 or 8 people in the place. Add to this the fact that it is not a cheap restaurant and you have most of the necessary ingredients for a place to avoid. It's not French, it's a cliche, and an over-priced one at that.

“Good French Bistro”
Reviewed 16 April 2013

In 2009, in the wake of the financial crisis, a three-course table d'hote lunch at this small French bistro could be had for $25. Now, Calgary is once again awash in money, lifting restaurant prices accordingly. From the fairly extensive lunch menu I selected cassoulet (20) and a glass of table wine (12). The cassoulet comprised broad beans in a tomatoey sauce, topped with a large and rather spicy merguez sausage link, and a small lamb chop, all quite tasty. For dessert, I was tempted by the very rich Tarte Tatin(15) but went for the chocolate mousse (10). The mousse was decent, the wine (pinot noir) only fair. A charming ambience, but rather cramped. Good service by (I presume) the owner.

“Snobby service, too jammed in”
Reviewed 17 February 2013

At this Bistro the waiters have a snobby attitude and poor service. They didn't tell us what the special was until we asked and service is significantly slow. Had to ask for cutlery between courses, it's just not professional. If you charge top dollar, high prices for a dinner, then the service must be up to par to command those prices. They CRAM you in, so every time the server passed our table our chairs were bumped which does not make for a pleasurable dining experience. The food, just average. There are must better restaurants in Calgary to go, if you have going to pay the high prices. I would not recommend this restaurant.
