Located just into northeast Calgary on 16th Avenue (Trans Canada Hwy 1) located on the south side of the street, it is a great spot to stop and eat if you are traveling through on a roadtrip. Try to avoid arriving at noon as there will be a line-up! This place is always busy and with good reason.

On one trip through Calgary I stopped and introduced my children to this food experience. When the staff learned that I had been there as a child, they notified the owner and he joined us at the outdoor table to thank me for my business and offer us some free desserts. Is there any wonder why this business has thrived for 50 years?!

The history is interesting, so here is a link to their website. http://www.petersdrivein.com/location

Be aware that access is no longer as easy as turning right onto their property to get in. Look for your access turn just past the drive-in which will put you into the line-up, or try to find parking in the adjacent parking lot to walk up and order. Signs mark the way. Service is fast and you would be well advised to study the menu so as to not hold up the line being indecisive. Out of car dining options have been reduced to allow for crowds and expansion over the years, but a few outdoor tables exist.

Portions are generous. If you order a milk-shake be prepared to struggle to finish your meal. The shakes are thick and tastey, no matter which of the numerous flavours you choose. They give the burgers a hard challenge for top product from this well known take-away-restaurant.

The hamburgers come in a variety of sizes to fill any appetite. The sauce is what helped build the business reputation so don't hesitate to order it.

The business is reported to have changed management in recent years and some Calgarians suggest that "It is not the same, though still a really good burger!"

I agree, however, don't let this put you off experiencing a visit whether it is your 1st time or your 51st. The changes may not have anything to do with management. This is still one of the best burgers you will ever enjoy. Is it the Alberta beef, or the time honoured recipe for success? You really just need to give it a try...you won't regret it.

Received a burger fries combo like you would make a home. It was hot and good. Both line ups were long and the wait long but I had to find out what the hoopla was all about. Just a novelty;try it to see the buzz. Would go back if it wasnt busy next time.

Peter's is an icon and great food. Our school ski trip busses from Edmonton would always stop at Peter's. The Triple Cheesburger is my favourite. Only thing that's changed in recent years is that Peter's now accepts Interac. Plastic card payment allowance is disapointing. Why? Being a tourist frequency eater of Peter's I enjoy parking and going in the outdoor walk-up line. The walk - up line now certainly takes a lot longer. Every teenager pays their own way now with plastic. Used to be a large group would just band together and get their order paid in cash for but quickly. Peter's makes your food and drink order fast, plasticcard users make line slow. Now its each one typing pin numbers while texting away. Walk-up line speed now super slow. Food still great. Bring back just cash Peter's.

A great cheese burger experience. Long lineups always! The wait is worth it and now they take debit and credit cards too. For 40 years it was cash only. Just drive up to the speaker and let
the order clerk know what you want. The milk shakes are thick, tasty and awesome.

Stopping at Peters used to be a treat for us on a trip home from the Rockies. Never again. The burgers were okay, but the fries were barely cooked; I could taste raw potato in the middle. I returned them to the counter and was given a new batch - I was promised that they were just out of the fryer. True, they were warm, but they were still greasy and undercooked. I don't understand why they can't fry them until they are cooked and crispy. I would much rather receive a smaller portion of properly-cooked fries than the big greasy batch I was given.
