“Authentic Ethiopian Food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 February 2013

The real McCoy! Genuine Ethiopian the way it is eaten by 30 million people every day! A taste treat, good service by very nice people, and the coffee is awesome too!

“Recommended, but after hesitation”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 April 2012

If you have eaten Ethiopian before, you will know what to expect: Meat and vegetable dishes served on a bed of injera, with more injera on the side. You eat the food by tearing off some injera (Ethiopian bread) and using this to pick up a bite of food -- there is no silverware. You will also not be surprised at the friendly but erratic service: In our case it took a good 10 minutes before our drink orders were taken, another 10 for the drinks to arrive and our food order was taken, but then the food arrived like greased lightning in less than 5 minutes. Then it took forever to get the bill.

Our food was very good but not quite hot enough -- in view of the fast arrival and the general randomness of the service we have a sneaking suspicion we got someone else's order by mistake!

Anyway, everything is forgiven since somehow (and in spite of the uninspired decor) the place has such a friendly ambiance. When we were there for an early Friday dinner, the fellow diners seemed to be from all walks of life: Neighbourhood working-class families, members of the local East African community, curious epicures from the "better" part of town, and so on. And everybody mingled and seemed to be having a great time, asking strangers what dish they liked, etc.

We had 2 dishes: The vegetable combo and a lamb dish, plus a large beer and a glass of house wine, and the total bill was a very reasonable $38.

And during the long wait there is another distraction: try counting all the spelling mistakes on the menu -- we found seven on the drinks page alone!

I'm hooked! If you haven't tried Ethiopian food before this is the best place in Calgary to start. There is no atmosphere to speak of but the food is amazing! This is my favorite ethnic restaurant in the city.
