I stayed at the Days Inn this past weekend for a conference that took place on the west end of Edmonton with a colleague of mine. Check-in and check-out was a breeze with the staff even making sure that my rewards card was on file.
Upon entering the room it was a large room complete with a table and a computer desk and was well cleaned. Typical hotel TV on a flat screen TV and good Wi-Fi was provided by the hotel, which was a nice addition. However, as soon as you entered the room it was extremely hot all of the time, even when you put the A/C on or reduced the heat in the room. It was so bad that we kept the window wide open in the room all night to just make the room comfortable. I know Edmonton can be a cold place at times, but the heat was way over the top.
The bathroom was also well cleaned, replenished with toiletries, had excellent heat and water pressure in the shower, and also has a bathroom fan with was excellent as well. The shower itself was "roomy" to say the least and could provide trouble for anyone with a larger body frame six feet and over.
The beds were typical for a Days Inn, which was okay, but the heat did make it uncomfortable until the window was opened all the way.
A major downside to this hotel is no continental breakfast as is found at almost any other Days Inn. There is a restaurant on-site (ConYacs) that you can order room service or have dinner in, but the food there is fairly average, basic, and over priced for what I had the two nights I stayed there.
The hotel also has a pool and fitness room that I did not take advantage of.
In closing, the Days Inn in west Edmonton is a decent hotel. The rooms were clean and the amenities were just what you expect at a Days Inn. However, with no continental breakfast provided (or a food voucher), incredible heat in the room that needed a window wide open in winter to make the room comfortable to be in, and an outrageous group rate of $129/night (typical Edmonton) charged, this hotel was much better and cheaper when I stayed a few years previous. The regular rate was around $140 a night and to me with no breakfast it is a complete rip off regardless of a microwave and fridge in the room.
Overall a good hotel, but if I wasn't getting the group rate, using rewards points, or staying with colleagues I would probably pick a hotel such as the Wingate where I would get more amenities for the same price. If the price was back to what it was around 2011, I would definitely stay again.
