Stayed here for two nights in late January and was pleasantly surprised. Nice modern rooms, great free WIFI, complimentary and hearty breakfast not to mention the 5:30 to 6:30 wine tasting six nights per week. Gym is functional and Whyte Avenue is loaded with restaurants, independent shopping and nightlife. Will definitely return.

Stayed at the Metterra for 3 nights while in Edmonton on business. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Rooms are very clean. The beds are really comfy with lots of white sheets and pillows. Complimentary wine every evening (did not take in), and complimentary breakfast every morning (pretty good). And of course the hopping location on Whyte Ave, always fun :))

My husband and I stayed at the Metterra for one night as we were attending a work function.

Check-in was quick and we took advantage of the free valet services as parking on Whyte Ave is a nightmare. Our room was very nice, clean and cozy. The room had a coffee maker, fridge and a mini bar stocked with wine, snacks, assorted pops and juices. We were provided with ear plugs, however our room faced the alley and we did not experience any annoying noise during our Saturday night stay.

We took advantage of the complimentary continental breakfast upstairs and asked the front desk to bring our vehicle around as we were told to book ahead (valet service can take anywhere from 30-45 minutes). After breakfast we checked out and were told our vehicle was parked down the street. We walked down the street with our bags and our vehicle was nowhere to be seen. We asked again where our vehicle was parked and turns out they never brought it around even though we had asked them to 30 minutes prior.

Valet service was frustrating, but the beds were cozy and the breakfast was decent.

Room Tip: If you want to avoid excessive noise, ask for a room facing the alley.

Right on Whyte Avenue (Edmonton's small entertainment district), this is a high-end hotel at midrange prices. It is clean, modern, quiet, and provides immediate walking access to many great restaurants and bars and shops. I recommend the Continental Treat for authentic European meals, Yanni's for the best Greek you will have in Western Canada, King and I for Edmonton's best Thai. Also nearby is Maki Maki for excellent sushi (believe it or not), and New York Bagel Cafe (maybe a 10-minute walk) for breakfast. Parking can be a nuisance here, and on Friday and Saturday nights it can get loud, but polite Canadian loudness, not boorishness. Excellent hotel. If you can't get in here, the Varscona just down the street is equally good.

This hotel has consistently offered great service and the location can't be beat. A log fire was showing on the tv screen when we entered our room. "How pleasant," I thought. A tiny white box on the night table caught my eye so I went to investigate. On the box was written, "Say no to Whyte noise." Inside was a pair of ear plugs. How very clever indeed, and what a nice touch! You see, the Metterra's front doors open on to Whyte Avenue, the heart of the Old Strathcona district in Edmonton, Alberta. The traffic noise might bother some guests and the hotel has brilliantly responded to this potential irritant. (See my separate review of Old Strathcona here: http://tinyurl.com/ljeb3tb). Rooms are large, with very comfortable beds and a great supply of pillows! The standard of housekeeping in this place is very high.

The daily breakfast is more than adequate, served in a very pleasant, cozy room that overlooks the lobby and the street. This room is also where the hotel offers wine tastings to guests on several evenings during the week. Meanwhile, right outside the front doors, the restaurants and shops await the public - a dizzying selection of various cuisines, coffee and desserts, and items in the shops just waiting for someone to pay money to give them a new home, not to mention the selection of spas that promise pampering from head to toe. In times when the weather outside may not be too inviting, the hotel has a fitness centre, a business centre, and Wi-Fi is free.

Room Tip: If you are concerned about traffic noise and the free ear plugs are not an option for you, simply as...

Checkin went smoothly with very informative friendly & welcoming staff who would always acknowledge you upon entering & leaving.
Large earth room on the 7th floor overlooking the avenue & apart for a lot of emergency sirens nothing much else to disturb us but then it was winter.
Floor to ceiling glass sliding doors which made for good viewing when back in at night to enjoy a couple of drinks in the room.
Spotlessly clean huge king bed very large TV & yay free WiFi. desk & chair along with 2 lounge type chairs a nice chest of drawers which held the coffee machine etc completed the room.
Upon entering our room for the 1st time how lovely to see the TV on with a crackling fire showing a lovely homely touch.
Complimentary breakfast was more than adequate & at long last I was able to enjoy a nice wine at the managers special for an 1hr of an evening. With 3 wines offered no spirits or beer along with battered prawns, chicken bits 3 different types of cheese & biscuits it was excellent just a shame they did not have the log gas fire on like they do at breakfast time as the atmosphere would have been even more relaxing
Public transport is just a few steps along of which we took advantage of to go to the WEM.
There are plenty of dining options close by the hotel & a short walk to a bottle shop & drug store.
Being caught in the most bitter of storms that were going through Canada we were unable to venture out to explore Edmonton further. The icy footpaths were a nightmare when one is not used to these types of conditions

My fiance, father and I spent a long weekend in Edmonton hoping to catch the Northern Lights (we lucked out!). We picked this hotel because it was reasonably priced, but also in a good location to do other things in case we struck out with the weather. The hotel is clean, with large rooms and incredibly comfortable beds. It's on the main street in a cute historic neighborhood, with several restaurants and shops nearby. Breakfast was fantastic with plenty of options and a really great coffee maker. I would definitely stay here again if I ever return to Edmonton.

Room Tip: ask for a high room if you want some nice views of Edmonton.
