We frequent Golden Star when we are in GP because we really like the food and the service. We haven't had a typical buffett there, but the regular fair like Ginger beef/chicken, teriaki beef etc is fantastic for a sit-down meal. Some of the dishes, like the meat dishes, come as a giant (literally) pile of deliciously seasoned and sauced meat with a rice bowl on the side. Overall, great restaurant!

After being seated right next to the kitchen in an almost empty restaurant, it took about 20 minutes for our order to be taken. In that time, the waiters and kitchen staff came out to look at us one by one until there was a group of them just blatantly staring at us; they were talking in their language and laughing . Our food FINALLY came out after quite a long wait and it was alright, but then they stood there and watched us eat, again, laughing. My husband walked right up to them and asked them, "is there an issue?", and they scattered like flies.
We will never return, and, will tell everyone I can about that experience.

I was a young girl of 20, in love with an older man. Our first official date was to the Golden Star restaurant. I used to walk by there and sniff the air because I could not afford to go inside, and I was always longing to go in. We got an intimate table over a bridge, a stream housing colourful, flashing fish. The waiter was courteous, immaculately attired, and had a repetoire of recommended chef favorites. Twenty one years later, the same waiter is there, the same bridge, and the dishes have not gone up in price, nor have they decreased in quality or quantity. The GP Swan's Nest is a culinary delight to the eye and the palette, with a nest made of crunchy potato sticks, filled with an array of vegetable and three kinds of meat. The sizzling rice comes out burning hot with wonderful veggies and seafood and meats. The whiskey beef is so tender that it melts in the mouth, and the fish with ginger and onion is one of the best seafood dishes I have ever sampled. So sit across from that one you have loved for so long, order the best meal in the north and have a glass of the house wine. It is Donini red, a table wine, but pleasant and still only 18 dollars for a litre. You go away full, but the bank is untouched. Enjoy!!

The breakfasts are excellent, and very large at a reasonable price. Great for a family traveling through Grande Prairie.

Ordered take-out a couple weeks ago. Not only was it expensive but the food was very average and the won ton soup was rancid. The ginger beef was hard as a rock also.
