“Good enough for the location”
Reviewed 20 August 2014

These cabins are somewhat rustic--not really in a charming way. But since Jasper is a fairly remote area, staying here was a reasonable enough choice. The location is nice, next to the convergence of two rivers. It's not right in town, but it's about a 5-10 minute drive away. The person at the front desk was not particularly friendly, so my first impression of the place wasn't great. Our cabin was OK. Clean enough, had a fridge and a kitchenette. Decent bathroom. The furniture seemed past its prime, though. The sleeping nooks are odd. Ours had two double beds each in their own little nook. The duvet cover on the bed felt sort of stiff and like plastic or something. I found a blanket in the coffee table/trunk and used that instead. They do have wifi, and it works pretty much everywhere on the grounds. One morning housekeeping tried to come at about 9:00am, which I thought was a bit early.

After exploring the Icefields parkway, the cozy cabin was a wonderful end to our day. Our grandson loved the bed behind the curtain, and I appreciated the well appointed kitchen. The location under the evergreens made you feel like you were camping. The cabin was clean, the beds comfortable and the staff friendly. Would stay again.

Room Tip: I think any of the cabins are fine

The very best thing about these accommodations are the views. Tekarra Lodge provides chairs to enjoy the spectacular river scenery and stars. However, the cabins were not well built. The walls are way to thin and the square footage to small for a family of 4 to be comfortable in the Astoria cabin. We agreed the stay was 'fine' but not worth the price.

We spent one night at Tekarra Lodge, the room was very comfortable and spacious but the location is great, alongside the river and an easy stroll into the Japser town centre which is worth a visit. The hotel staff was not very knowledgeable about the surrounding area particularly with regard to the hikes but on the plus side they were very friendly.

We stayed one night at Tekkara Lodge in the height of summer. Jasper is a pretty expensive place, but it was expensive for what you get. Should be an alternative to camping, but is more of an alternative to a four star hotel.

It was nice, rustic as expected. The bed was a bit uncomfortable, I felt like I was rolling out of it all night.

I'm sure it's usually cold there, and not normally 30 degrees centigrade, but the heater in the cabin didn't actually turn off. So it was already hot and then the heater was on! Apparently the pilot light always needs to be on. A fan in the room for the summer months would have been good.

We didn't eat in the restaurant as it seemed very expensive. Instead we went in to town and went to Evil Dave's Grill, which was really good.

It's not as close to town as the map makes out, I was glad we were driving. Parking in town is not a problem in the summer.

We spent only one night here which wasn't enough to make the most of its amazing setting. Highlights were swimming in the lake and sitting watching the incredible river view....one of the most fantastic vistas of anywhere we've stayed.

The staff were friendly and the cabin was perfect - cosy, well decorated and looked after, with a really nice feel to it.

We didn't dine at the restaurant as it's quite pricy for a family of five but next time we will.

Altogether a place with a friendly, happy feel to it and set in a fantastic location.

We have come to Jasper many times and enjoy every aspect of our time there, The Tekarra Lodge was a new experience for us and we throughly enjoyed every minutes of our stay there.
The lodge is very quaint and was very enjoyable, breakfast was included which was very good.
I would highly recommend anyone to stay at the Lodge or Cabins.

Room Tip: If anyone is coming when the weather is really hot I would recommend the Lodge as it has Air Condit...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Nestled deep in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, Tekarra Lodge enjoys an enviable location within Jasper National Park, the largest of the national mountain parks in Canada, 4200 square miles in area. Jasper became a National Park in 1907 and the town site's first buildings were constructed in 1911, then Jasper was known as the town of Fitzhugh. Tekarra Lodge is located across the river from the base of its namesake, Tekarra Mountain. Tekarra Mountain, towering 2635 meters above us is named for the Iroquois guide and hunter who accompanied Sir James Hector on his expedition through the Rocky Mountains during the mid-1850s. The skill and devotion of the guide Tekarra saved the lives of the members of that expedition. He sustained and fed them during the grim and bitter winter with caribou that he hunted on the mountain. It was because of this devotion that Sir James named the mountain Tekarra. The lodge grounds form the banks of the confluence of the Athabasca and Miette rivers. This land is maintained in its natural state, and offers a wonderful study for nature lovers. Tekarra's marked nature walk, and the Indian totem poles give pleasure to all ages. The area and history in and around the property is a fascinating one. One of the first settlements of Jasper called Henry House may have been located adjacent to the lodge on the south side of the river. Even today, there is still indication of an old homestead and some outbuildings. Tekarra Lodge was built circa 1947 and initially consisted of only a few cabins, some of which are standing today. ... more   less
