Beautiful setting, lovely cabin; amazing stay in Jasper at Tekarra Lodge (cabin #39)

Review of Tekarra Lodge
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 3 Jun 2019
My wife, our dog, my brother-in-law, and I were participating in the Banff-Jasper Relay, so we spent one night in Canmore and the second night in Jasper, where we were lucky enough to choose to stay at Tekarra Lodge. A co-worker of mine had recommended it as being a beautiful pet-friendly place to stay and boy was he right! Absolutely beautiful and real honest pet lovers, with a care package on check-in and clearly genuine dog lovers. It is about a 2 minute drive to Jasper, which is JUST far enough to be nice and quiet and you could not ask for a prettier setting. We were only there for one night, so we didn't get a chance to sample the restaurant, but the menu looked great and based on how good everything else was, I'm sure it would be too. We will definitely be back, it was a beautiful stay in a truly idyllic spot.

Room Tip: Cabins on the outside road have the best views as they face or back onto the trees.

Thank you for the review and you are 100% correct....WE LOVE DOGS! (actually all animals). We are so happy that you felt that love and will return on the future. We hope you and your team had fun running in the Banff Jasper Relay. We hope to see you again next year.

Always enjoy the cabins at this property. I thought cabin number 4 was the best, now I'm pretty sure the best is cabin #23, lol! Really, they are all so lovely, quaint and full of character. Older- so not a lot of plug ins- but the location is so wonderful. Loved going back, and can't wait for the next visit. The staff are amazing, and Steph- the manager is an absolute treat.

The lodge is well located and nicely decorated. However the room and bathroom were really too small. The complimentary room which could have given us more space to relax was not available although the front desk hostess presented it when we arrived.

Thank you for taking the time to review the property. If you decide to come again I would suggest reserving a cabin as they have space for a full tub as well. We hope to see you again.

Cozy little cabin, well equipped kitchen and the Starbucks coffee was a nice surprise!
Towels and linens clean and new.
The soaps and shampoos were lovely but the upselling of these products and the 4.00 snacks I found a little tacky.
Lodge staff were all friendly and accommodating.
Breakfast was a disappointment as service was abysmal, food was cold and expensive.
I’ve enjoyed this restaurant in the past but it is definitely not what I remember.
The setting is spectacular, with inviting seating and amazing views.
I loved that there are no televisions, and my internet connection was adequate.
My pet was accommodated and although the Welcome Pet package was clearly intended for dogs, a clear effort was made to make my critter welcome.
I loved the vintage feel of Cabin 1. The bathroom was clean and updated....with an unfortunate choice to connect the exhaust fan with the main washroom light instead of the secondary light above the toilet....the fan roaring away while you need the light for the mirror above the sink.
We ran out of hot water halfway in to the second shower.
I’ve enjoyed this quaint hotel setting for years and would definitely stay again!

Hello SuSanne D,

Thank you for your detailed review. I'll make sure to pass on your comments regarding breakfast to the restaurant ownership group.

We have many guests who want to purchase our in room amenities and sometimes unaware that there is a fee for the re-fillable bottles. Based on guests past experience we added the information about where they can purchase the products.

Overall, if sounds like you had a wonderful stay and we hope to see you again in the future.

Location, location, location! As a base for exploring the surrounding areas this was good. In terms of facilities, not good although breakfast was included (but make sure that what you order is on the "breakfast included" tariff so as to avoid any nasty surprises). The room was pokey: rustic does not have to be poor quality. We had one of the single rooms in the block. There is a common room where you can relax, but it was occupied 09:00 to 21:00 for each of the days we were there by an art class / workshop! Fortunately, we only wanted it as a base. The scenery is its best feature.
In terms of facilities, size of room and price, only 2 stars (no room even to open the suitcases); the location / scenery brings it up to 3 stars.

This could be such a wonderful place if they put some money into it! Guess since you can fill it most nights during tourist season they don’t worry about it.Haven’t been up to the area in 30 years and so much has changed. Only had one day in Jasper so with issues we had, we lost almost 2 hours of daylight sightseeing time and didn’t get to see all we wanted unfortunately.

Room tip: Upgrades needed for price you pay. Stayed in an awesome cabin by banff for way less cost and more benefits. It was a beautiful setting
