Jasper House is a national historic site although the current Jasper House is in a different location than the original one. Some of the units are duplex cottages with a kitchen, dining area, living room and second bed area. I say bed area because it was just a bed separated from the living room with a curtain. There is an extra charge for using the kitchen facilities. We were just two people and not in need of the kitchen so the accommodation was more than adequate. We did not have a river view which some of the units do have. There was no air conditioning and no safe deposit box. The motel type rooms have nice porches. Between the campfires, river and wildlife, I felt like I was back in summer camp. It may not have been the most beautiful accommodations, but it was very homey, friendly and fun. Every night, around 9:30, the elk would appear right behind our cabin or on the nearby driveway.
There was a river in the back of the property with benches and a trail along side it. It's less than 3 miles from town and we were able to walk back from town easily in 45 minutes. The breakfasts were just okay but the dinners were much better. Staff was friendly. It's a fun, non-pretentious place to stay for a couple of days and it could be nice for families to share a cabin and use the kitchen facilities.
