“Beautiful Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 December 2011

I stayed in a cabin at this hotel in May 2011 when visiting my sister who lives in Calgary.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this hotel. The location is wonderful, it is close to downtown Jasper yet far enough outside of town that you feel you are truly in the wilderness. The lobby is beautiful and the grounds are amazing. The view on the lake with the mountains is really what sells this hotel.
It is pricey to stay here, but I would not expect anything else from a hotel of this quality and in such a location. We rented a canoe and went out on the lake - beautiful and worth the money. We ate at the upscale restaurant on site - I will say, the bill was a little much, but - it was absolutely wonderful food. I do think for the money, the service could have been slightly more attentive but its nothing worthy of complaints.

The heated pool is a great touch so you can swim under the mountains any time of day/season/year. I had a pedicure at the spa - I *highly* recommend the spa here. The prices are fair, and prior to your appointment, you have access to the pool, sauna, steam room, etc. You get a robe and slippers and have a lounge room that looks out to the mountains with complimentary drinks and small snacks (muffins, etc).

I believe for only something like $20/day you can access everything at the hotel (canoes, restaurants, spa, etc) without actually having to have a room booked or stay at the hotel. This could be a great option for people staying at a lower priced hotel in Jasper to still be able to experience the atmosphere here.

Overall, the hotel is wonderful. The location sells this place, despite it being on the very pricey side of hotels. I would definitely recommend it if you have the money to spare.

Pros: The property is stunning, and everything is trimmed and polished to the 9's (you don't have to be a hotel guest to enjoy the property, just drive up and park). In the summer the hiking is fantastic, and in the winter, it's 'post card pretty'. The food and service is second to none. Mini fridges, tea/coffee, & in-room-safes in closets.
Cons: Location. The hotel is not walking distance to the townsite of Jasper, you have to drive. Rooms are typical. Nothing fancy for a Fairmont resort. Some of the cabins are really starting to show their age (wall paper, loose bathroom fittings, old windows that rattle in the wind). Things are so-so clean, lots of dust on upper ledges where you don't see unless your'e looking for it.
The stay was nice, but for the cost (approx $200/night), I won't be back. There's a much nicer (much more cost effective) hotel in the heart of Jasper (see my other reviews).

Thank you LianaS for your comments about our property. I'm so glad you have experienced both summer and winter here, as they are both very different (and beautiful) experiences! You are right that we are in fact located a 12 minute drive from the Jasper town site, but our location just outside of town gives our guests a chance to be within very close walking distance of Lac Beauvert and Lake Mildred, literally in the "backyard" of an abundance of wildlife and close to our many onsite winter and summer activities. It also gives our guests a feeling of privacy and an authentic Rocky Mountain experience away from the hustle and bustle of town. That said, we do have shuttles that run throughout the summer for those looking to experience Jasper. Again we thank you for your comments and look forward to seeing you back again! Sincerely, The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge

We spent a couple nights here during our anniversary trip through Western Canada. This was the most expensive stay of our trip, at $399 per night, discounted from $525.

The setting was magnificent, and the morning walk around the lake in the crisp October air was beautiful. Unfortunately, the hotel experience felt overpriced and underwhelming. The great area of the lodge with fireplace was stunning, but the services there including the bar and small cafe closed early, The restaurant hype was top-notch, but the food and wine were average in quality. Our room was nice but nothing all that special. The only available parking was a long walk to the other end of the property.

This place definitely focuses on families, and I can imagine it would be a great time for kids in the summer with all the lake activities, assuming their parents can afford it. On our next visit to Jasper, we'll probably stay somewhere downtown, where the hotels seem to be more appropriately priced.

My wife and I spent two nights in the Athabasca Cabin to celebrate our 25th Anniversary. Service was great with the exception of the cleaning staff; my wife accidently spilt some gravy on the carpet from our supper on the first night carpet was not cleaned for the duration of our stay. Cabin was clean but dust could be seen under everything. The location of this resorts is beautiful with the surrounding mountains and the frozen lakes and the presence of wildlife which kind of makes up for the outdated facilities this place needs a total reno. Furniture in the cabin is worn out and damaged with the exception of the bed which was very comfortable, walls are in need of paint, carpets are old and dingy,...The service staff bent over backwards to make our stay as comfortable as possible, thank you!!! The food was somewhat average and expensive with a very limited choice. I should also mention although somewhat amusing, their was a squirrel living in the attic of the cabin which could be heard during the night. Overall our stay, although expensive and a bit of let down concerning the facilities, was very enjoyable due to the friendly staff and the surroundings. This was our first stay at the lodge, I don't know if we will stay again as I'm sure their is better value for your money in the area in season but then maybe not. Please keep in mind our stay was during off season and maybe its better in season.

Hello Richard L, thank you for your comments. Fairmont Hotels & Resorts prides itself on the service we provide to our guests, and I'm thrilled that we were able to exceed your expectations. However, I am of course disappointed to hear that there were some issues with cabin, and I have forwarded your comments on to our Rooms Department to look into further. Once again thank you for your review, and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Sincerely, The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge

Apparently Sir Arthur Conan Doyle visited the lodge and said something about it being 'better than heaven.' I tried to read his review here but I couldn't find it. This is the kind of place that John Denver or Dolly Parton would have loved to have taped a Christmas special from in the early to mid '80s.

My wife and I were so excited about coming to the Fairmont for a short post-Christmas vacation that we drove into a snowbank near Edson. I'm not kidding.

Since we got here after the Christmas exodus had fled, the lodge was really quiet and peaceful. No crowds, no noise. When we checked in, the staff had upgraded our cabin for us at no extra charge, which was a class move. It was probably an upsell technique to try and get us to pay and upgrade even further but we didn't take the bait.

Since the accomodations are cabins, it obviously requires a walk out-of-doors to get to the dining area, the pool, the overpriced gift shops, etc. Some people thought this was a bad thing. I actually enjoyed it. The delicious scenery, wholesome fresh air, and the smell of the trees are an essential part of the Jasper experience. If somebody just wants to sit around a hotel room and watch pay-per-view they're in the wrong place. This is an excellent place for a winter getaway. I don't recommend coming here during peak tourist season however.

Unfortunately the lodge is quite a ways from the town of Jasper so you will need a car if you don't plan on staying at the Fairmont for the duration of your vacation.

We've never been there in the summer yet but it's on our 'to experience' list.

Room Tip: Go after the holidays are over.

My family (10 of us) all met and stayed in a cabin at the Jasper Park Lodge to surprise Mom for their 50th Anniversary. It was only for one night and brunch the next morning, but it was wonderful. 5 bedrooms, all with big bathrooms & soaker tubs. Pool table in the basement, big warm stone fireplace, big family dining table. Brunch the next morning with an absolutely stunning view of the snow capped mountains, delicious! Saw 2 herds of elk and a billy goat on the way home. Great time had by all!

Thank you lovetotravelgirl46 for taking the time to share your experience. It sounds like you and your family had a lovely time in Gardener's Cabin, which is definitely one of my favourites! A shame that you were only here for one night - hopefully next time you're able to stay a bit longer. Sincerely, The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge

The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge is simply beautiful. All the details and extras are taken care of and the staff is super helpful and friendly. A wonderful experience. The food is also outstanding, with lots of healthier options.

Room Tip: Ask for a Lake-front cabin. The view is spectacular
