“We were happy in Cabin 7”
Reviewed 13 March 2014

Visited Jasper after Banff back in September (four nights just after Labor Day). We were happy with the Alpine Village overall and although Cabin 7 was a small, older, nicely remodeled cabin and it was comfortable for the two of us. The bathroom was natural stone with a heated floor and huge up-scale shower. Really, no room for luggage so we took clothes out and left them on the side counter and put our luggage back in the trunk so as to have room to relax. We like the option to cook some meals ourselves and used the outdoor grill several times. Our plan to prepare breakfast, however, was another story. The pots and pans were old, peeling teflon and we refused to use them so we managed with hard boiled eggs in the one usable pan with toast or grabbed something on the run. Many mention that these cabins are on a main road but we don't really agree; it is close to the road but it is more of a scenic loop and there were no traffic noise issues after dark or in the morning. We enjoyed the resident cat that came to visit us most evenings while out cooking on the grill and we got to expect the sound of bugling elk just before dawn each day. Saw more elk while on this property than anywhere else in Jasper :). We would visit Jasper again and stay at Alpine Village.

Sure, go ahead, spend a small fortune at the Jasper Lake Lodge. Or, stay here, for a fraction of the cost. These individual lodges are wonderful. Spacious and well-appointed. It feels a bit like a Swiss chalet. Outstanding!

My husband and I spent three nights in the "H" cabin, a deluxe bedroom suite. When reading the reviews describing the cabins, it is important to determine where the reviewer stayed--the accommodations vary greatly in size and "rusticness", and the range in prices reflect this! The website has a good description and pictures of each accommodation. The deluxe bedroom suites are nicely furnished and spacious--king size bed (very comfortable),bedside tables, sofa sleeper, side chair, coffee table, desk and chair, an area for coffee, small refrigerator, etc., all with room to spare. The bathroom is quite nice--tub/shower and really good counter space for all your "stuff". The suite has a wood burning fireplace and a large deck outside. There is a designated parking space for each cabin (a few steps away from the door). The grounds are attractive; the cabins are located on the west side of the road; the river is on the east, (there are no "riverside" cabins, just "river view") but it's easy to walk across the road and relax in the Adirondack chairs by the water. Quiet place--we were on the road (river view, but across the road from the river) and had no problem. Could improve the wifi and provide a coin laundry. Sad to have to leave this peaceful place to go into town for these things. And coffee--we love coffee--would love to be given more than 1 packet of coffee each morning! But would definitely return!

Room Tip: The back of the property is more private (newer buildings).

Spent almost a week at Alpine village this past September. Although the cabin we were in was quite small, it was immaculate. Our bed was comfortable, and the kitchenette was well appointed with high end appliances. The setting was quiet and peaceful with the Athabasca river flowing by just across the lawn and highway from the cabins. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and they made helpful dining recommendations during our stay. The only downside was the advertised wifi, which was spotty and extremely slow if you could get connected. Plan on going into town for reliable internet service.

We had one of the low-end cabins, and couldn't have been more pleased. It was clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. The views were exciting, and the river's gurgling was soothing. We didn't approach this as a classic "resort," but rather a simple cabin and relaxing base of operations to explore the trails around Jasper in late-September glory.

Good cabin, nice view, however over priced in my opinion. Staff service was mixed and facilities were lacking across the site. You don't get what you pay for in my opinion. Jasper Alpine Village has some clear strengths and some drawbacks which the onwers should address to make this place truly special.

Really enjoyed our stay here. It was rated number one on trip advisor, and I see that it still is. It's only about three or four minute drive to the main town, and is nestled away with bush behind it. I recommend the cabins facing the bush rather than the river, as there is a road between you and the river so you are more likely see animals in the forest cabins. We saw a really large elk and several females when heading out the back to chop wood, but didn't see any from our cabin. It was great to see. The cabins themselves are well appointed, they aren't the highest of luxury but for the type of accommodation they are they will more than adequate.

Being able to light a wood fire of a night was a nice novelty for a city slicker, with me over enthusiastically roasting my wife and I to death each night after building a huge furnace. Definitely recommend this place, and I recommend having some fun and chopping some wood out the back.
