“Peace and quiet”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 May 2014

Alpine Village is one of those places that you drive by and think........'that looks like a beautiful place to stay.....one day...." Well that day arrived this year. We rented a one bedroom cabin for midweek right at the end of the 'low season'. Cabin was beautiful and well appointed (heated floor in bathroom). Fireplace was nice and we were looking forward to relaxing evenings by the fireplace and hopefully have a front row seat to wildlife wandering through the property. We were warned that hot-tub area was closed and under renovation - no problem. Bought a bag of wood to burn in fireplace and it was damp and didn't want to burn. Came back from town to a note "power will be out for ~4 hours this afternoon. " (OMG the hockey game!) Overall, we got what we went for - Peace and Quiet. Will have to give it another try........one day.

Room Tip: One bedroom cabins are newer - large decks - #s 21 - 25

Having stayed in Jasper numerous times over the decades at many different locations, including the JPL, this has become our go-to resort over the past ten years. Alpine village is a scenic and quiet location on the river, 2 km. away from the town itself. Easy 25 minute walk mostly on a trail in to town, and a very short drive. The location offers outstanding views of mountain, river and forest. The accommodations vary from small cabins to very luxurious larger units, including family units. We have stayed in them all, and they each have their own charm or amenities to offer, depending on your needs and price point. I cannot imagine staying anywhere else when in Jasper, including the JPL. Note however that it is a quiet resort, a couple of times when we went as a larger group we were encouraged to keep the noise level down! Not a bad thing....

I think that almost anyone would agree that Alpine Village is a special and wonderful place, but it puzzles me why its guests are bombarded with warning signs, warning notes, and general scolding--don't do this! don't to that! watch out for X! be careful of Y! The management seems to have a pervasive air of having been in some way unjustly knocked about by previous guests--people have been doing too much or this or that, and it causes us problems, and please cut it out. The guest handbook is a litany of the mayhem that will certainly ensue if guests don't toe the line, and while I suppose hotel owners have to be wary these days, at $200+ per night, I can't believe too many college students on a beer weekend are going to be selecting Alpine Village for their blowouts. So please back off a little--it's okay to like us.

This uniquely built resort is a great place to stay and the service is top notch, you feel welcome and at home. We stayed a night after a rail trip from Vancouver and found a real Gem. The rooms have been renevated and are beautiful. This was a great place for the whole family.

We stayed for four nights early in September, when the nights were already getting a bit chilly. We were in one of the newer chalets with a large bedroom/sitting room, as well-equipped kitchen and a modern bathroom with shower. It had all we needed and we were very comfortable. Our car was parked outside - there are bitumen drives to all chalets. The village is adjacent to the rushing Athabasca River, a very pleasant place to sit in the evening - there were moose about too.

Visited Jasper after Banff back in September (four nights just after Labor Day). We were happy with the Alpine Village overall and although Cabin 7 was a small, older, nicely remodeled cabin and it was comfortable for the two of us. The bathroom was natural stone with a heated floor and huge up-scale shower. Really, no room for luggage so we took clothes out and left them on the side counter and put our luggage back in the trunk so as to have room to relax. We like the option to cook some meals ourselves and used the outdoor grill several times. Our plan to prepare breakfast, however, was another story. The pots and pans were old, peeling teflon and we refused to use them so we managed with hard boiled eggs in the one usable pan with toast or grabbed something on the run. Many mention that these cabins are on a main road but we don't really agree; it is close to the road but it is more of a scenic loop and there were no traffic noise issues after dark or in the morning. We enjoyed the resident cat that came to visit us most evenings while out cooking on the grill and we got to expect the sound of bugling elk just before dawn each day. Saw more elk while on this property than anywhere else in Jasper :). We would visit Jasper again and stay at Alpine Village.

Sure, go ahead, spend a small fortune at the Jasper Lake Lodge. Or, stay here, for a fraction of the cost. These individual lodges are wonderful. Spacious and well-appointed. It feels a bit like a Swiss chalet. Outstanding!
