If you're looking for basic accommodation at an affordable price in jasper, the athabasca will do fine. The rooms are cozy and the bathroom is down the hall if you pick the cheapest option. Nevertheless it's clean, friendly, and a good choice if you're not planning to spend much time at the hotel anyway.

It could have been the 1950's [in the nicest possible way] ,the ambience and essence of the whole hotel was in no way 2013. We liked it ! Our room although very small did have a washbasin and TV, and was clean and comfortable and quiet. Having to go down the corridor to access the [locked when someone was in there] bathroom and toilet was not the highlight of our stay ,but it did teach us to stand with our legs crossed. My advice is to upgrade to a room with en-suite ,but for Jasper the price was reasonable.

Room Tip: Upgrade to en-suite

We stayed here for a few nights. Although the hotel is not to my personal taste with the dead animals everywhere the beds were nice and comfy and the bathroom was also quite spacious.

We were staying above the nightclub however and the music was so loud we could not sleep and the floor actually shook. We wish we were told this when we checked in. Also the wifi was poor.

This hotel was a real surprise. From the outside it looked very basic but as soon as you walked inside it was like stepping back in time. For $107 we had a beautiful, well furnished room with a hand basin and shared bathroom facilities. The foyer had moose, elk & caribou heads on the walls as well as stuffed eagle and badger. The hotel is located in the heart of Jasper. The barman in the side bar was excellent. They also offer ensuited rooms.

My Mom and I stayed here for 2 nights in June 2013. We weren't sure what to expect due to some of the reviews here, but as we have a fairly low budget, it was perfect at $109/night.
We LOVED it! Our room was on the top floor, cozily made up in kind of an Old West parlour style. The room was smallish, but we didn't really spend much time in it anyways. The bed was super comfy, there was a tv mounted on the wall in the corner, a window that opens, AND a fan above the bed. The shower had water pressure like a fire hose! (we had a private bathroom) There is no fridge in the room, but there is an ice machine down the hall. The staff were friendly and helpful. The WiFi is free but very slow.
To address a couple of the complaints in other reviews: yes you have to lug your luggage up the stairs which is a pain, but it's not really worthy of a bad review. There are rooms above the bar, which I can see would be disruptive. We were lucky to stay midweek when nothing was going on there. I would suggest asking in advance for a room away from the bar. Also, there is street noise with people shouting in the wee hours, but I don't fault the hotel for that.
All in all, with a central location and free parking? I think this hotel was a great value for money and I will definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the bar.

Old style well done. It sits in the heart of Jasper close to all facilities. It's an older style pub venue, but the rooms have been done extremely well. I had a queen room with shared bath and I could not fault it. Just what I wanted. And at a great price for the location. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Room had everything expected for the style and the venue met my requirements for a room distant from the disco which seems a main complaint for this hotel. I slept soundly with no disturbance.

The hotel is old and has lots of character. It is bang in the center of Jasper town, across the downtown and the railway station. Fantastic location. One drawback is that it does not have elevator so taking your bags up and down is a problem. I like the hotel in all respect except the noise at night especially around midnight and after from vociferous people enjoying their holiday or their pegs. Otherwise a nice hotel and location. It lacks tea/cofee in room and a fridge.
Word of advice: other hotels are only within minutes of walking distance which looks like quite hotel and probably cheaper too.

Room Tip: Away from street and bars
