Maybe you're like me. You really aren't too concerned about the decor. A quiet place and a comfortable bed in a clean affordable room is what matters. Well, I really liked the Maligne Lodge in Jasper. There were little amenities that really mattered to me. Like Laundry facilities. And the use of a computer for free. And a really friendly and helpful staff. And the use of a microwave in the lobby. The breakfast was overpriced and really bad. If you want something affordable go to the A&W about three blocks away. It's not in a steam tray and is cooked fresh.

Room Tip: I don't know if they have a fitness room or room service.Really don't need a fitness room. Use the great outdoors. A staff member carried my bags to my room and probably would hae carried them down if I had asked. I stayed 5 nights over nine days. I broke my stay by a horseback trip with Tonquin Valley Backcountry lodge, It was fabulous. Tried to review it on Trip advisor but it is not listed. Check it out through google.

We stopped at this hotel as part of a weekend get away. Since we spent most of our time outdoors we were not in the hotel room very much. We did however love the beds and the size of the room. The hotel from the outside is older but the rooms are fresh and updated. We will for sure be staying there again!

On our self drive tour of the Rockies I had booked this place in adavance and the first thing to point out for the "Brits" reading this is that this is a motel and not a lodge as we would know it, but no harm there. The check in was quick although there seemed some confusion about the room, which was clean and big enough for two and had parking outside but according to the manager at check in is dealt with in a "first come first served way", which was Ok for us as the motel was not that busy that night but might be more of a problem when it is busy.
There was a faint smell of something in the room but that soon disappeared or maybe we just got used to it and it is slightly out of Jasper, we had the car so no problem. As other reviewers mentioned you can hear the mighty Canadian Pacific railway but not enough to disturb your sleep and to be honest we could not see it from our room and as it runs right through the middle of Jasper, I guess its also the same for most of the other hotels/motels. For us the motel was adequate but a little over priced for what it was and considering where we had stayed before always included breakfast, albeit continental here it was Can$12 extra. We had paid £72.77 including all taxes for our one night stay and probably one night would be enough.

Room Tip: We stayed on the second floor, which leads straight onto the outside walkway, which was ok.

We have now had 8 self-drive holidays in North America, and although we had a fabulous holiday in Canada this particular motel must rate as the worst we have ever stayed in and was way below the normal standard we expect.

On arrival the motel appeared a bit run down and tired compared with others in the town. At check-in the desk clerk attempted to make it sound as if they were doing us a huge favour by upgrading the size of the room. The room itself was dingy and had a slightly musty smell. The air conditioning unit was so noisy that it needed to be switched off to have a conversation or watch TV. Fortunately, the nights were cool.

The next day we left the motel at 8 am and returned at approximately 4.30 pm to find that no housekeeping had taken place. We reported this to Reception and after about 10 mins received a phone call to tell us that housekeeping would be with us in another 20 mins time.

The following morning there was a different person on Reception and on checking out the sum total of her conversation was “OK” – no greeting, no goodbye, not even “have a nice day.”

Our recommendation to you is that you take this particular motel off your list, there are far better ones to be had in this lovely little town.

We reserved at the Tonquin Inn in Jasper and were send to the Maligne lodge, same company but the price was a little more expensive at Tonquin Inn and we receive a free breakfast in compensation .
Arriving at the Maligne lodge we were given a beautiful large room but as soon as we unpack we were told this was not our room. We received some help to transfer to a room that we refused:: the entrance and the window were in the area of the indoor swimming pool that was open to 10:00pm (no fresh air, very hot and humid because of the swimming pool). Finally we got a room with view on the main road what we wanted to avoid by reserving at Tonquin Inn. We received another free breakfast for our second night stay!!!!
The hot breakfast had a lo of choices.

I am glad to read that we were able to provide you with complimentary breakfast. Thank you for submitting a review of your stay with us and we hope that we can welcome you back in the near future.
