Our family usually loves Marmot Basin but I have to say it was very disappointing today. The load of snow in Edmonton and Marmot's advertising that they were opening the Upper Mountain today made us think of fresh untouched powder. Also, the fact that they jacked their prices up from $49 to $82 today, would lead one to think that their early season conditions were good enough to warrant the big jump in price. Do not be fooled - conditions are very poor with treetops and rocks everywhere. Most of the hill is actually closed. It was a joke that they opened the upper mountain - only Paradise and Basin Run are open at the top. Hwy16 is open if you want to completely gouge your skis. My 3 snowboarding boys were excited to go to the Eagle Ridge chair (which actually didn't open until about 11:30am) only to find that most of it was closed and the rest was so bad they lasted 2 runs. So my friends, while Marmot is a great place to venture when there is snow - $82 is a rip-off right now, they should not be charging full freight. We would have done better staying in Edmonton and skiing at Rabbit Hill!!

We skied Marmot Basin last weekend, and the snow was amazing for this time of the year. We are regulars at the hill. Marmot Basin has hills for all skier/snowboarder skill levels. Cannot wait until all the runs are open. We will be back in December. Let it snow, let it snow!!

Marmot Basin is the perfect compliment to Jasper itself -- friendlier, less crowded, more intimate. The parking lots rise to the side of the runs, so no matter how late you arrive, you always have an easy run down to get your ticket and a smooth zip to your car on the last run of the day.
I threw my back out while there and the treatment I received from the Ski Patrol staff was top notch.
The runs are challenging for those looking to stretch their experience, yet suitable as well for younger or less accomplished skiers.
And the views are impressive, even from the base lodge.

This was our first visit. Even the bas elevations gives you fantastic views. I took a lesson and was very impressed with the instructor - friendly, encouraging - helped me overcome some fears of chairlifts and heights! Lots of slopes to chose from.

Every winter we travel to Jasper to ski. Marmot Basin Ski Area has improved a lot over the years. We first went there in 1974 - does that age us? We always enjoy sking at Marmot as there are lots of runs that vary in degree. The line ups are usually reasonable and the Poutine (mid mountain) is great! We like that the hill is only a short distance from Jasper.
