“Loved It!”
Reviewed 31 August 2011

My partner and I stayed at the Patricia Lake Bungalows for 3 nights on a 2 week west coast road trip. This is such a beautiful and relaxing spot! The cabins are located on Patricia Lake, which is surrounded by beautiful mountain views on every side. There is a dock for fishing and relaxation and there are various boats available for rent. Patricia Lake is only a 10 minute drive from downtown Jasper but you really feel like you’re “away from it all” in the mountains.

We stayed in one of the Whistler Suites, which don’t have a lake views but they are less than a 2 minute walk from the lake. These are duplex units with each building containing two Whistler Suites. The suites are fairly new and are quite cozy with wood beams and a fireplace. The Whistler Suites don’t have kitchens but do have a mini fridge and some dishes and cutlery are provided for guests. The bathroom was small but adequate; my only “complaint” would be the shower, which was a stand up shower (no tub) and a bit tight and awkward. There was no A/C, which wasn’t an issue as it gets quite cool at night. The customer service was great. The girls at reception were always friendly and helpful and a staff person came by every evening to ask if we needed anything – a nice touch.

The Whistler Suites were reasonably priced in comparison to other accommodations in the Jasper area. However, what did surprise us was the extra $20 per day we had to pay upon arrival. When we were stopped at the Jasper park gate on our way to Patricia Lake we were told we had to pay $100 for our stay (5 nights) in Jasper and Banff on top of what we had paid already for our accommodations. It would be helpful if rental properties and hotels made guests aware of this upon booking accommodations as it does make a difference some of us travellers. In the end, we did spend quite a bit of time exploring the actual park and I would say we got our monies worth.

I would highly recommend Patricia Lake Bungalows to anyone visiting the Jasper area for its location, beautiful scenery, affordability and the great customer service. I hope to be back again!

That's right, for 50 years I've been coming to Patricia Lake bungalows. This place is an integral part of our family. Here's a few reasons why... The humble bungalow itself is designed to be rustic, and we wouldn't want any other way! The staff check in with you every morning, and evening. This is the only place on earth that I would let my kids roam about without knowing exactly where they will be going. A trip to the mountains would be miserable without our dog. These bungalows are one of the very few places that have pet friendly cabins. Some of the facilities we love are the hot tub bike/canoe/kayak rentals. there's a place for a bonfire as well as bar-b-ques. Let me be clear to those of you checking this place out. It is everything the detailed website shows, so really look at the place, the floor plans etc. One final comment is that the owners work tirelessly all year long, and indeed once the place is closed for the winter to update, maintain, and reno these quaint little cabins. Each year when we return, seeing the updates is a little added treat. My advice is listen to a customer who keeps coming back after 50 years. I have never experienced anything but sheer bliss every single time I come here. I have also recommended Pat Lake to dozens of people who have started their own yearly migrations. See you next year!....(Also, be sure to ask the staff about the thanks giving event. We attended the first one. There's pumpkin carving hot chocolate for the kids, and at night everyone displays their pumpkin on their step and you can stroll around and check out the funky artwork.

We stayed at the 'historic' log cabin for three nights at the end of our honeymoon in the Rockies. This was one of the most expensive and least luxurious places we stayed.

On arrival there was a gap between what I'd been told on the phone when I called to check a few things before booking and the place itself. Of course this conversation had not been recorded. The ladies at the front desk seemed accustomed to complaints but inept at dealing with them. For example, I had been told the cabin was a distance away from other properties and with a lake-front view. The cabin is close to the lake but the view is obscured by trees and there was a bungalow within ten feet of every corner of the cabin. This could have been settled amicably, but the manager suggested I was foolish for not having checked the cabin's location on Google Maps! There does not seem to be a campus map on the website, so be aware that all the units are close together.

The place itself was nice and we met some nice people in the hot tub / bbq area. Fittings in the cabin were generally outdated (in a bad, rather than charming, way) and the wiring was not suitable for modern use. We lacked a TV remote initially - something on any every hotel's checklist?. Furniture was generally in poor condition - e.g. gouges and scrapes on wood, a chip on the glass coffee table and knobs that didn't match on drawers. No major complaints, but all things that make me think that the competition must be truly awful if this is the top-ranked accommodation in Jasper.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay - a peaceful place with plenty to do. But certainly not worth five stars!

Room Tip: Spend some time evaluating what you want before you book.

We stayed 3 nights at Patricia Lake Bungalows this summer. There were 2 families travelling. We rented a deluxe 2-bedroom duplex unit and the Cavelle suite.

We have been to this resort seven years ago and some renovations have been done to the duplex unit. The 2 bedroom unit was not luxurious, just your standard unit with a full but small kitchen. The bedrooms are small but beds were comfortable. The sofabed was not very comfortable.

Additional suites like the Grove and Cavelle are new. The Cavelle unit we had was luxurious and had a separate sitting area. We were able to visit the units at the Grove and we thought they were really nice but can only accommodate 4 people. The Grove units all have their own BBQ while the rest of the resort have to use the 2 BBQ by the playground/hot tub area.

There are a variety of units and the staff is helpful in finding the best unit to fit your family. Summer is a busy time so book early.

We have enjoyed our stay at Patricia Lake Bungalows and will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: book early

As this was part of our honeymoon we decided to splash out and stay in the one of the Grove suites for 4 nights. The staff were very professional and friendly, visiting us twice during our stay to check everything was ok - a nice touch.

The suite was immaculate with great views of pyramid mountain from the lounge and the gas fire really made it feel cosy. The kitchen was modern and had everything needed to be able cook properly and the suite also came with a gas BBQ and private patio which we used one evening - though the Canadian midges made it a little uncomfortable make sure you pack some spray!

The resort its self was very tranquil with lots of opportunity to see wildlife both on site and from the walking trails close to the site (trails both round Patricia Lake and Pyramid Lake are easily accessible) . Jasper was approx 5 minutes drive down the hill so restaurants, shops etc are all close at hand.

There is an outdoor hot tub and opportunity to hire boats on the lake - something we didnt do as we ran out of time doing other activities - white water rafting etc...!

We would definitely recommend staying here - it was probably our favourite place to stay in two weeks of touring the Rockies.
