“Cabin accommodation”
Reviewed 15 June 2014

The lodge is a series of cabins of different sizes on a quiet road in Jasper.

The pros: the road is really quiet and it was nice to feel like we were far away from city life. It's also close enough to walk in to Jasper to get whatever you need. They also provide free bear spray rental.

I struggled a little with the self catering equipment. There is no oven, only a hob, microwave and toaster, and the pans were not non-stick so I'm glad we didn't set off the fire alarm. The staff do offer to give you other equipment that you might need but we didn't want to keep bothering them every time I though of something else I needed. We also had the cabin at the front of the property so it felt like people could look in on us.

They do offer breakfast on the premises and they also have a hot tub in the main area.

Stayed for a night, rustic little cabins, ours had very few plugs available.
TV was not updated (still has an old CRT) but the cabin was clean.
The beds in our cabin were very hard, which is good for me, but not so much for some people..... mattress only on a piece of plywood ... no box-spring.
The continental breakfast offered was excellent, a real bonus.
Reasonably priced accommodations if not looking for anything fancy.

We stayed a night and were left a note to let ourselves in.
We didn't see the host until the next morning as we were leaving. This did feel a bit odd as we felt like we were invading some ones home.
The room was comfortable and kind of old fashioned but we were comfortable.
We are tea drinkers and would have likes some tea but the herbal tea was very good.
The TV was tiny and very difficult to watch anything from the bed.
We enjoyed watching people go by from the window seat.
We had the largest (and in my opinion the nicest room). It was immaculately clean.
Although it is a B and B there was no breakfast provided. Given the price, we would have either liked the price to reflect no breakfast or given even a continental breakfast.
However for some reason the accommodation in Jasper is expensive.
Everyone said how hospitable the host was but we did not see her for long enough to comment.
She seemed nice when we spoke to her to pay.

Close to downtown. All the amenities of a hotel, but rustic and more private, lots of space in the cabin, and has everything you could need for your stay. Girlfriend weekend getaway with a baby and a dog, and it was perfect!! Will be going back for sure!

Jasper is stupendous and somewhat pricey. Here one is proximate [walk to town and its shops], and easy access to drives into the mountains. We had a room, vs. a cabin, that we found slightly small, but eminently serviceable. In three nights, sheets were not changed, but otherwise clean. No cross-ventilation, so room could get stuffy. Very unusual and somewhat unsettling credit policy: the Lodge routinely assesses a $200 CAN "security" deposit against damaged room; goes on one's credit card as a "hold." Took a couple of days after our departure for the "hold" charge to come off, and the right charge to appear. Unsettling. Otherwise, perfectly good place to stay.

I stayed for one night in Room 35 on the second floor which was accessed by an outside stairway. Although it wasn't the busy season, there were no vacancies so I take that as a good sign that they're doing something right. I would refer to the décor of this place as rustic with lots of pine paneling and I actually liked it because it was a pleasant change from what I usually see. It was in a quiet location within easy walking distance to downtown and there was no noise at night. My only complaint would be the size of the TV screen. I have a computer monitor at home that has a larger screen.

Bear Hill Lodge was a great place to stay. We really wanted a log cabin stay as part of our Canadian Rockies holiday and this wasn't so easy to find in April as most off the main highway are still closed at this time of year. So we were pleased to find Bear Hill Lodge and enjoyed our two night stay. Close to the town yet has a feel of being more rural as elk wander past the lovely grounds (and apparently bears too once they wake up). We stayed in a heritage log cabin, original quaint feel to it, great log fire and everything we needed. The cabins are small and cosy, basic but perfectly formed and very warm (it was pretty cold outside for non-Canadians!) This is not 5 star chain hotel (probably not for you if you like the uniformity of chain hotels) but a lovely family run accommodation. The guy at the front desk could not do enough for us, gave eating recommendations and advice. Close to visit the Jasper tramway gondala, main highway through Rockies and all town amenities, we had lovely afternoon tea at Fairmont jasper park lodge nearby. Restaurants nearby and Bear Hill has indoor hot spa pool, very nice in the cold winter months! We loved our stay here and definitely recommend it for an authentic (stereotypical) log cabin stay. We loved loved loved the Rockies and wished we could have stayed longer.

Room Tip: Look at their website, accommodation is accurately described. All fairly private, well spaced in gro...
