“There's an Elk in the garden, how about that!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 August 2010

We stayed three nights in the Bear Hill Lodge, we were in cabin 19. Each cabin has it's own allocated car parking which is good.

Our cabin had two beds, one double and one single, the single was good for the cases. There was a shelf with a hanging rail underneath for jackets and the like. The bathroom was a good size and very clean. In the corner by the door was a gas fire which would switch on automatically depending on where you set the thermostat on the wall.

Some of the cabins had a kitchenette, ours didn't (so breakfast was included), which we knew when we booked. On the table in the corner was a coffee machine with coffee. We had our breakfast in the dining room which is in the main reception building. Breakfast was great, home cooked muffins, cereal, toast and coffee on tap plenty to fill yourself up for a day out walking. Also in this room was a little lounge with some local travel books.

We used the Hot Tub a couple of times, it's clean and towels are provided.

In terms of a walk from town then it was about 10 or 15 minutes depending on your route. From the back of the grounds you could also link up with the well sign posted 'round Jasper' local walk which we did.

On the last night a special guest (elk) arrived and started eating the plants in the garden, pretty special.

Nice tiny hotel with cabins (we had a room over the main reception level though), near the beginning of Jasper city, let's say at a 10-15min. walking distance from the center of the town.
Staff could be nicer but breakfast is original and changes a lot from very traditional North-American breakfasts (I mean, no eggs, sausages, etc. "just" homemade and fresh pastries).
Air conditioning and ventilation system is very noisy though. There is finally a small jacuzzi and sauna, which are nice.

Good sized cabin, roomy. Good kitchen facilities. Staff all friendly, pleasant, & helpful. Location good- can walk to downtown Jasper as well as close to hiking trails. Quiet too.

Two nights at the Bear Hill Lodge in a cabin/suite with 2BR (adjoining) and 2 baths.

Pro: Cabins immaculate and in topnotch condition. Rooms well-appointed and comfortable. Pleasant setting in the woods on edge of town. Park at door. Kitchen in one room, wood-burning fireplace in both (buy your own wood). Deck out back.

Con: Breakfast available at $10 pp; even a free muffin would have dulled the pain of the room rate at $200 per room ( @ $400 per night for the cabin for five of us),

On balance: acceptable value for the area. Very well-maintained and “cabin” should not be off-putting at all. Recommended!

Bear Hill Lodge is a steal in a sea of expensive accomodations. The staff are friendly and helpful and you get the feel that it's a family owned establishment. We had a small cabin with a fireplace that was comfortable and cozy. The view from every direction is absolutely breathtaking!

Cute bungalow/cabins within an easy walk to downtown Jasper. We paid nearly $200. Accomodations were clean but overpriced. They also charge an extra $10 per person for breakfast, which is strange because they bill themselves as a B&B (which usually means breakfast is included).

BearHillLodge, Front Office Manager at Bear Hill Lodge, responded to this review, 27 September 2010
Our accommodation rates compare favourably with other accommodations in Jasper National Park and vary depending on time of year. We are listed as a B&B due to the fact that we include breakfast during the summer season with some of our smaller rooms. All other accommodations have the option of breakfast at a cost of $10.00 per adult and $5.00 per child.

I agree with previous reviewers.
The cabins are too small and dark. Cabin was clean but we had nowhere to hang anything. Tiny table and chairs, but we had to shift the chairs to get in to the bathroom.

Breakfast was OK. Location was good, far enough out of town to be quiet, but close enough for a walk into the centre.

Disappointing.
