We could never recommend this hotel. We stayed 5 nights. Our room was above the kitchen and and there was noise throughout the night from refrigeration units. The air conditioning unit was a huge unit taking up space in the small room. The unit was too noisy to have on at night so the room was stuffy. The only window in the room was very small and opened onto a walkway and so there was alot of noise from people coming and going particularly if we left it open at night. The room was dark the decor boring and dingy, the furniture dark. There was no master light switch in the room so every light had to be turned on individually and they all had to be on to see other people in the room it was so gloomy.
We didn't eat at the hotel because we thought they had taken us for a ride with the room and they were not going to make any more money out of us. We walked into town but it is quite a trek.
Quite often we couln't park near our room aspeople going to the restaurant took the spaces.
We paid equivelant of £130 per night far too much for what we got.

Stayed: August 2008

The room we stayed was nice, clean and big. Lighting was inadequate, some light bulbs were missing. This hotel is two blocks away from the starting of the main part of town. But it is walkable. Plenty of parking in the town center. I recommend eating in Earl's. The food and ambience is very good at a very affordable price. We stayed for two nights. First day we had checked in after driving the Ice fields parkway from Banff. Second day we had a relaxed time going to Maligne Lake, Jasper Tramway etc. Must go to Pyramid lake area for some good boating.

My Wife and I needed a getaway on short notice and the Tonquin was among the few hotels in the Jasper area that was not booked up. Now we know why.
We got a room with a King size bed for two nights. The cost was just over $500 after taxes. The room was very small(in fact the bed took up the whole room). One of the pillow cases had an old blood stain and there were several hairs throughout the bed. I have allergies to cats and my eyes were itchy for the whole stay. Perhaps a cat had stayed there previously. The bed was nice to sleep in but on the second night the noisy old air conditioner gave out and my wife and I got very little sleep due to the heat and stuffiness in the room. I called the front desk to ask if we could move to another room with a working air conditioner at 1 AM and the best he could do was send us up a fan. Needless to say we didn't feel we got our money's worth especially for the second night.
I have stayed in MANY hotels in my life and feel that this hotel was worth no more than $100 a night even though its location is in the beautiful town of Jasper.

We rang and booked the same day from the Icefields Tourist Info Centre. The prices were good compared to other places in Jasper at this time of the year.
The staff were pleasant and helpful. The room was very clean the only grumble I had was that the air conditioning did not work. The swimming pool was small but clean. The place was handy for the town but still in a quiet location.

Although we had a printout of the confirmation of our booking from the Tonquin Inn website there was no booking for our party when we arrived at the Inn.

After ten minutes discussion we were finally allocated a unit of the type we booked.. The deluxe two bedroom unit with living room and kitchen was a perfect accommodation style for our family group. The only disappointment was that the bathroom had a plastic concertina type door that had a big tear in it - so bathroom privacy was severly compromised.

We dined in the attached Tonquin Steakhouse, the food was good but overpriced for a motel restaurant. It was disappointing that we could not get breakfast at the restaurant the next morning - we were directed to a truckstop style cafe down the road where we got a hearty breakfast for a reasonable price.

The motel situated on the main road was quiet and provided us with comfortable accommodation for an overnight stay.

I really could not recommend this hotel at all. The alluring qualities aluded to in the advertising of this hotel didn't materialise for us. The hotel room was stale, little light, definitely not clean and soooo drab and noisy. The one we were assigned had 2 flights of concrete stairs and it really was awful, our advice would be to drive past this place as quick as you can.

The Tonquin Inn was a great experience for my family. The staff were GREAT! They took care of our every need. The room was very clean and kept that way by the their amazing housekeeping staff. They even looked out for my dog. When the housekeeping staff noticed that I had forgotten to bring my dogs food dishes and had to use a plate they brought us a complimentary dog dish. Thats the kind of "service" that deserves a repeat visit from us and you as well. I highly recommened staying here. Beautiful view, great staff, nice clean rooms, great swimming for the kids, and hot tubs for the adults to relax in. Dosen't get any better than that.
