“It was just okay.”
Reviewed 10 June 2014

The best thing to say about the Tonquin is that it is one of the most beautiful places in North America.
Parking for the hotel is only adequate, so if you want to get a spot close to your room, don't arrive too late at night. The elevators to the second and third floors in our building were small and disheveled, and make noises that are a little scary.

Our room was at best tiny. One king bed and a small desk. Only one person could squeeze between these two pieces of furniture at a time. The view out of our window was of the hallway, and cleaning staff decided to have conversations there quite early in the morning. The room was dusty, with vents having very obvious dustballs hanging from them.

The bed was large and comfortable, and the linens appeared fresh and clean.

The bathroom was tiny, the tub and shower were small, but water pressure, and heat were good.

The air conditioning was not well marked, and the cooling system heated the room on the first day we were there. There was no temperature indication, and no indication of which way to turn the knob for heating or cooling.

The price we paid was in line with what is paid in Jasper, so I consider it to be expensive for what we got.

All in all, the old saying that, "we only sleep in the room, so how good does it have to be?" suits this hotel, as we couldn't wait to get out of this very small space. It got us out into the wonderful world of the park sooner than it might have!

Room Tip: Don't arrive too late so that you can look at other rooms. We were stuck with the tiny little t...

Three of us stayed one night mid-week. Check in/out was quick and friendly. The price was OK for a mid-range hotel in Jasper. We were given a 'family suite'; a main room with queen bed, couch, table and 4 chairs, full kitchenette and TV, with a separate back bedroom.(chest and night table but no second TV). There was an "add on" air conditioning unit the size of a small bar fridge just inside the door but we didn't need it. The unit was clean, but a bit dated. The beds were good and we slept well. Our suite faced the main street and railway main line/siding area opposite; you could hear the trains shunting occasionally.

We didn't use the other facilities like pool/hot tub, but they looked nice. Neither did we eat at the hotel restaurant, but it looked good, with average prices for Jasper (i.e. 20-25% higher than none-National Park prices).

Room Tip: Quieter rooms are those away from the main road/rail yard on the west side of the hotel.

We stayed here only for one night, but the room was very clean, the swimming pool and hot tubes were nice. Bed were really comfy as well..Decent place to stay if you're on the budget. 7-10 min walk to Jasper City centre.

We had a room that had a queen bed, chesterfield and kitchen table. A small kitchen divide it from the other queen bed in a separate room.

The rooms were clean and comfortable but we had about 6 flies in the room (not that unusual) so we asked for a fly swatter. They initially said they would bring one. No one showed up so we went to the front desk to ask for a fly swatter and they said they didn't have one and it was normal to have flies. (So then why wouldn't they have a fly swatter?) We went and found a magazine and killed the flies.

On the good side, they provided a bowl and scoop bags for the dog. Rooms were not cramped and were quite. Hot tub was nice. Only improvement would be if the installed a couple of BBQ or a bonfire pit the same as Patricia Lake Bungalows. It is nice to be able to BBQ a steak or hamburgers and meet others while doing so.

Overall, we'd stay here again as it was comfortable.

I stayed here recently for two nights with my mum and our room was nice. No one came to our room for housekeeping to give us fresh towels or make the beds, but when we phoned reception they brought us new ones quite promptly. We used the gym and swimming pool/hot tubs which were nice. I think the Tonquinn inn is good value for your money!

Just came back from a one-night stay in room 259 with KING bed - amazing! The comfort was great and so was the $$ rate. Stayed there for 3 nights in 2010 in a room with 2 doubles, and it was equally pleasant. Super super clean and surprisingly quiet. The pools was a definite hit with the kids!

Although sl older, this hotel was well equipped with restaurant, bar and room were very comfortable. Great bed, best sleep in Canada so far, fantastic spray shower and fragrant shampoo and conditioners. Flat screen tv, coffee maker and kettle in room, and milk in fridge which is not always the case in Canada. 15 min walk to shops, but scenic road to walk down
