After reading the reviews that came before me, I am appalled at what whiny people there are in the world.

The Liard Lodge is what it is - an OLD lodge that has obviously seen some abuse. The carpet is stained, granted, but I stayed 4 nights and saw how hard the housekeeping staff worked while cleaning the rooms. When we entered our room I could just smell 'clean', so I knoe that the building has been given some TLC. I didn't notice 'filthy walls' as some guests have reported. What I did notice was a squeaky clean bathroom and comfortable beds.

It was hot in the room - so I did what common sense dictated - I opened a window.

The workers at the lodge were friendly and helpful and the food, even though there was no cook on site, was 100% home made and delicious. The portions were big and the price wasn't out of line. Drinks were expensive, as was gas, but that is to be expected on the alcan.

I really enjoyed my time at the lodge, and I think the poeple who gave bad reviews should stick with the Holiday Inn and their bubble-wrapped lives. And maybe removing the pickles from their behinds would do some good as well.

I would reccommend this lodge to anyone who asked me about it, or who will listen.

We paid extra for a third person got two towels and no staff available to ask for another. Filthy carpet. Hand held shower attachment broken. Expensive. Generally needs some TLC. Liard Hot Springs on the other hand was amazing. You can walk in 5 minutes from accommodations

Well well where can I start. The lodge is over priced for no reason. The carpet and ceiling was stained. The room was very small and too hot at night I woke up with a headache....The restaurant didn't offer much to eat except sandwiches and macaroni soup....The only positive thing about the lodge is the location. It's right across Liard Hot spring. I wouldn't recommend anyone to to stay at this lodge.

Room Tip: Avoid sleeping here. Try to drive to Watson Lake or nearest city you can get better accommodation.

I cannot tell you how dirty the carpet and wallls were. You would have to see it with your own eyes to believe it. The bathroom faucets were coated with dirt and the bathtub was just as bad. The flooring was coming off the bathroom and was dirty as well. The plug ins did not have plates over them. Bad experience. At $140 per night plus tax....bad deal.

Room Tip: move on....don't stay here unless you absolutely have to.

My husband and I stayed there for 3 nights... It was booked in advance what a bad decision. It looks very nice on the outside but it was a different story when we got inside. Our room was upstairs when we got up the stairs the carpet was very badly stained and very filthy. The carpet in our room was no better!! There wasn't an area of the carpet that wasn't clean. The walls were filthy. Not worth the 140 dollars a night we paid to stay. The staff were friendly and helpful!! Gas was 1.98 cents a litre there but what they don't tell you that if you are heading towards Watson Lake just up the road a ways from the lodge is Toad River and gas there is about 146 per litre. If you smoke or drink alcohol you better bring it with you as the only place to buy these items are either Fort Nelson or Watson Lake. You also should bring your own snacks because the grill closes at 730 pm and your order must be in by 715 for them to accept it. The food was your basic average menu. The only basic choices was burgers, fried chicken or hot sandwiches what you get is not worth the money. Would never stay here again!!

The lodge is in on the ALCAN and in the middle of nowhere. the room was OK, the food was OK and since its really about the only place for miles accept it as it is. You have the hot springs right across the room which is a must-do and there are bison roaming all around--be careful if you leave early in the morning and poke your head out the door first--one lone bull was feet from the front door and you do not want to startle old grumpy loner bulls...

Stayed here in 1993 with son and brother in law. Was so impressed that on my return journey up the Alaska Hwy I insisted to my wife that we also stay here. She would be impressed (not). Stayed upstairs on my first visit, but had the lower room (12) on this visit. To say it was basic is an injustice even by the hit and miss standards on the Alaska Hwy. Double bed, and 2 so small light tables, no chair, no shelves, only 3 hooks. Curtain separates washroom and bedroom. One comes to expect at least a radio/clock but not in this room. Not even a coffee maker in the common room. All of this for $130 w/o tax. Pretty sure this was the dog friendly room but I also saw 2 dogs in different rooms upstairs. Restaurant was basic but Ok. If you want to stay in Liard, bring a tent and reserve a site at the adjacent provincial park for $21 including hot spring admission of $5. Otherwise check out Toad River to the East. Biggest advantage is the proximity to the hot springs, 10-15 minute easy walk. These hot springs will spoil you for anything in the south.

Room Tip: Avoid room 12, but can't verify if upstairs room are any better
