My daughter and I were staying with her friend at this place while in a swim meet. As soon as we parked the car, you could tell staying there was a mistake. The look of the main entrance was very poor. It hasn't been renovated in a while. It looks sketchy. The lady at the front desk was not there and we have to wait at least 10 min. When we got the room and went there, the stench of smoke was terrible. We thought it was only that room, but then we checked with three other families staying there and it was even worst in those other rooms. So much they had to put Febreeze to mask the odour. We just decided to keep the window open. The kitchenette we had in our room was dirty.
After the meet, we came to the hotel around 8 pm and the place was a zoo. There is a pub in the premises and it was noisy. One of the other families staying had a window towards the pub and it did not lock. It was scary given the crowd hanging around. The rest of the night was even worst, with people yelling in the parking lot and around the rooms. It was zero sleep the whole night.
We finally decided to switch hotels the next day because it was not worth the money we paid for.
Do not go there, specially if you have children.
My son and I came up to stay for a swim meet. The staff were friendly when we checked in and helpful when we complained of the cigarette smell. They brought up an Ionizer which was supposed to clean the air. Nothing could remove it! Even the towels smelt like smoke. I didn't sleep all night because the smell was so bad. I decided that we would move out to another hotel, so went down to tell them about my experience, and that I wanted my second night payment back. The gal at the desk just looked blank and said she would have to call her manager for a refund. Surprisingly, the manager wasn't available. I left anyway, and will be following up with the chain if I don't hear from them.
My fiancé and I for the second time in over a year were able to get away kid free. We decided to cancel our reservations up in Qualicum as we didn't want to make the trip after dinner. We decided to look for somewhere closer and in a area where we could get a bite to eat in the morning then go look around Duncan. We arrived at the Super 8 and the guy that helped us was very friendly. He gave us a discount cause I was a triple A member and upgraded us to a "bigger room". When we got in the room you could tell it was very outdated and in fact the so called "bigger room" was just a room with two small beds not even big enough to really fit two people. The room was VERY small and the sheets on the bed had stains and not old stains that a wash didn't take out but it looked as if the housekeepers did not change the sheets! So we decided wed try to upgrade our room to something a little nicer. We got the Jacuzzi suite and the guy which we were quite surprised said it'd take 40 minutes cause they have to clean it... Now we got in there well after dinner and why on earth would the room not be cleaned by then?? Anyways we got into the room finally and it seems a bit better.. Nothing like the photos and was still super small but the bed thankfully was a bit bigger. Now to make matters worse at about 7:04 am we awoke to someone breaking into our room. NO JOKE! Thankfully I had put the chain on the door and I even looked the second lock on it the odd thing is that these doors a key card operated.. We sat in our bed scared shitless at the door was being messed with finally opened and then someone tried to push the door open with the chain still on causing the chain to almost rip out of the wall thankfully they stopped and left. The really weird thing is that yes its key card operated but we had a sign saying please do not disturb and I use to work in housekeeping its by law that no cleaner is to enter some ones room till after they check out at 11 am! They are to knock twice on the door and say housekeeping before entering. They cannot arrive before checkout they can only enter a room if its past 11am and the guests have not left yet. Now who ever it was got the door open even after noticing the chain on continued to push the door open did not make us aware they were wanting in and failed to notice the do not disturb sign and also instead of closing the door they left it open after they realized they could not get in and left probably when they heard us get up. We are completely mortified if I had not put the chain up then what??? I told the lady at the front desk when we were leaving and she was like oh wow scary ill tell the manager so we left. We had breakfast at Smittys and decided that was not good enough and we wanted to talk to the manager ourselves so we went back. She said that the manager would not be in till Thursday and if we want we could talk to the owner. I said yes wed like his number please and like to call right now since it happened today its best to tell him now. So we called and he was trying to say we could of left the door open or if we went to the pub which the pub was closed, we could of left the keys there and someone took it which no we went to pub it was closed they will see that on the cameras us coming back after minutes of leaving cause it wasn't open! We left the room twice once to grab ice and the next for me to get some vending machine snacks one of us at all times stayed in the room! We didn't leave any cards anywhere but with us and in our suite! The lady at the desk asked the housekeeper is she had in fact been there and opened the door and she said no, no house keepers at all were on the premises. The owner says he cant reimburse us till he checks the cameras which completely blew me away cause this is our SAFETY that was in jeopardy and we were very nice to them regardless of this happening but we accepted so we look forward to hearing back from them to tell us who tried breaking in. Funny thing is I never saw no cameras looking at our rooms I saw one in the lobby and one in the hallway by the vending machine but not pointed towards our room! We paid 110 bucks with discount on this room and we should NEVER have had that happen to us! I would highly suggest reconsidering when thinking about staying here specially if you got kids. I'm so glad our son was not with us and so glad nothing happened to us in our sleep! We will NOT EVER be staying in this place again!
Didn't know about your wynham rewards program at the time we visited super 8, on nov 16/2013, we would like you to consider our stay at this motel to count in our next rewards program! The front desk attendant was oriental, and very hard to understand, when asked questions about weather you offered a spa? hot tub;? OR pool,, and wasn't too responsive-- or didn't seem to really care!
