My husband and I spent another delightful week in the cottage on Fairburn Farm. We look forward each year to the opportunity toenjoy not only immersing ourselves in the country on a farm, but taking advantage of being in Cowichan Valley. The valley is full of farms, wineries, and a bay that puts fresh veggies, seafood, eggs and wine on our table every day we are there. It is such fun to pick our raspberries on the farm and have fresh eggs from the chickens running around the pasture. The owners of the farm are so hospitable and encourage everyone to get to understand how the water buffalo farm works and even help feed the baby buffalo. It is a real treat for the kids, but we adults enjoy it as much. We look forward to returning next summer to take advantage of the relaxing atmosphere of the beautiful farm, sleeping with the windows open to the sound of the crickets, and dining farm to table.

I came across Fairburn Farms B&B while looking for a place to stay between our days camping on Salt Spring Island and at Pacific Rim. It turns out that this was the kids favorite part of our trip! They loved spending time with the water buffalo calves, running after chickens, collecting the eggs, playing with the dogs and spending evenings hanging out on the front porch. We stayed in the orchard room and loved that they had bunk beds for the kids. It was a large room with a spacious closet, very clean and well furnished - although with so much to do and such a great porch, we spent very little time in it. Maryann and Brett were very warm and welcoming and the breakfast were incredibly delicious. Although we did spend some time visiting some local sights, the kids would have been just as happy just hanging out at the farm all day. It was a memorable stay, one that the family will look back on fondly for years to come.

You’ll find beautiful grounds and a gorgeous old home with roomy accommodations looking over miles and miles of treed forestland. The hosts, Brett and Maryanne, are very friendly and helpful and the breakfasts are yummy. Our room was the Heritage, a suite with two large beds with bath across the hall. This is a wonderful place for children. You will leave the paved road and travel a couple of miles on a gravel road. It seems like you took the wrong turn into the wilderness but you will arrive at the home after only a few minutes. Bonus – the aspect of an active water buffalo dairy farm. You can tour the dairy, watch the buffalo milking, and bottle feed the newborn calves! It was the highlight of our 10-day trip!

We attended a wedding in The Glenora area over the August long weekend at stayed at Fairburn Farm. It was such a peaceful setting. We visited the five new born water buffalo - born during our stay there- and toured the farm grounds and main house. Our accomodations were in the guest cabin. It was very clean and just the cutest place and holds a lot of history. The cabin had everything we needed! And it slept our family of five very comfortably. We chatted with Darryl and Richard about the Water Buffalo and various aspects about the farm and area.
The breakfasts we had at the main area were deliscious and they used fresh ingredients. The rooms very clean and tidy. We would definately go back there! We loved our experience there.

We chose to have our July wedding out at Fairburn Farm and we could not have been more delighted with our choice. Maryann and Brett were amazing and there for all the little things that made our day go smoothly. They absolutely went above and beyond any expectations that we had. We rented the entire house and the rooms were lovely, the beds comfy, the atmosphere calming (especially for a nervous bride and groom) and the food they served in the mornings was fantastic and they were really great at working around different dietary issues among the guests. The surroundings were beautiful and if we had to do it again we would not hesitate to choose Fairburn Farm again as our wedding venue. I cannot say enough great things about Maryann and Brett and how we literally could not have done it without them! We cannot wait to plan our anniversary with a trip to visit the farm again.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Koksilah Room which had a comfy queen sized bed as well as ample room and nice size...

I stayed here in late April for a night with my daughter, my second time at Fairburn Farm in the past five years. This is a magical place that feels frozen in time. The farmhouse rooms are wonderfully comfortable, the views are magnificent and the hosts are welcoming, warm and provide a terrific breakfast. Fairburn Farm gives guests a unique opportunity to see a different kind of farm in full swing, one differentiated not just by its Bulgarian water buffalo, but by the amazing relationship they have with their farmers. Afternoons we watched milking in the milking parlour, while in the mornings we helped collect eggs from the chicken coop. We loved being here- it was a treat to the senses and an awakening to a life we don't often get to experience.

Thank you so much for your great review. We enjoyed having you stay with us and we hope that you left with lots of new information. Our son keeps saying your daughter's name, so she must have made quite the impression on him!
All the best,

We stayed two nights at the beginning of September and loved the old house, simple decor and bedrooms with good beds and wooden floors. The owners are great hosts and it was so interesting to learn about buffalo farming. We stayed in the back bedrooms with bathrooms outside the room which was fine for a short stay. We got to peek into the larger front bedrooms with baths and they looked lovely. The size and setting is conducive to interacting with other guests and we got to meet other friendly and like-minded people. We would definitely stay there again. The Cowichan Valley is an interesting area for people who care about local authentic food - nice little wineries and cider distiileries (Merridale Ciderworks).

Room Tip: The larger rooms with baths seem very nice.
