Description: Wendel's nourishes hungry minds and bodies as an independent bookstore and fresh-food café. The café lavishes readers with a menu of fresh fare made in-house that eschews preservatives and accommodates dietary needs with wheat-free, dairy-free, and vegetarian options. An outdoor patio puts patrons in prime reading, people-watching, or espionage-conducting position to enjoy local scenery along with breakfast selections such as organic blueberry pancake and omelettes. Lunch and dinner selections span hand-held bites such as the chicken-and-avocado wrap and heartier dishes such as wild-salmon-and-asparagus salad. Coffee and espresso creations range from lattes and cappuccinos to mocha frappes and are brewed with beans from local roaster Moja Coffee and water from the local fountain of youth.

We had dinner at Wendels after a Fort to Fort Walk. All three of us had lemonade (delicious, tasted homemade and not too sweet) plus entree and dessert. From the quinoa and roasted yam salad, to the chicken burger on a pretzel bun, to the cilantro chicken wrap, we were hugely impressed. Very fresh, lovingly prepared and great portions. The deserts were exceptional. And again, nice portions for the money. Unquestionably the most memorable meal I've ever had in Fort Langley. Wonderful, local feel. Bookstore such a nice addition to the ambiance. Would like slightly bigger table but that's a minor quibble. Great experience. Consider packing picnic luncheon Wendel's. Great way to enjoy a fort walk--picnic on the way near the apple trees and lovely views.

I've been going to this bookstore/cafe for years while my kids trained on the adjacent waterway for their paddling club. I fell in love with the place immediately. The book store is small, but it has some classic novels for sale. The food is exceptional as are the hot and cold drinks. I love the ambiance, the busy feel to the place but the drawback is that it is really, really hard to get a table on the weekends and evenings. If you can handle the madness, then it's a great place to have some quality food and enjoy good company. The service is hit and miss. Some of the regular employees are great, but the others are less so - perhaps stressed by the volume of people who visit. Still, this is by far one of my favorite places anywhere.

Fort Langley's worst kept secret. Wonderful dessert and coffee options. Have very good warm meals as well but more of a coffee and dessert place. Bookstore and varied magazine selection connected to the store as well. Gets very busy on sunny Saturday's and evenings during the summer.

Treat yourself to something special - either with family or friends or solo - stop in and choose one of the delectable treats or awesome coffee while picking up the latest read. Quaint Fort Langley shop does not dissappoint. A bit crowded at times - but that speaks to its popularity.
THE place to meet in the Fort. The owners have a true heart for the spirit of Fort Langley.
small and quaint, tasty and a treat! Handmade and homemade goodness - a warm hug on a cold day.
