“Great”
Reviewed 26 May 2011

I stayed at the Thompson for a little under two weeks. The location is great, about a block away from a long row of downtown restaurants. The rooms are large, clean, and the staff are very helpful. Breakfast is at the restaurant next door and is pretty good for a continental. It consisted of toast, muffins, 3 cereal choices, pancakes, fruit, juice, and a sweat often cookies or cinnamon buns. My only breakfast complaint is that the cookies and cinnamon buns made daily re-appearances until they were beyond stale. Other issues with the hotel are that the Internet gets slow when the property is full, the exercise room is very small (1 treadmill, bike, 5-in-1 weight machine, and a elliptical that doesn't work well.) The hotel is also close to train tracks. You can occasionally feel the building shake when they are attaching train cars.

Overall, the Thompson is a nice property with great staff. I would definitely stay there again.

The Thompson is located in a good spot in Kamloops - downtown and within walking distance to restaurants etc, but still surprisingly very quiet.

The rooms are nicely furnished with a small fridge. The staff are nice and helpful, parking is covered, and there's a 24 hour games room if you have active kids/teenagers with you. You may not be"knocked-out" by the Thompson, but you probably won't regret your stay either.

a wonderful, helpful, accomodating staff was great the entire weekend. The hotel offers many services and extras. The theatre room, conference room, pool and activity gathering room were great. Great for kids and adults. Convenient location. You could do far worse and have stayed at far worse for similar prices. The rooms were also clean and comfortable

We stayed at the the Thompson as part of our Rocky Mountaineer adventure from Vancouver to Jasper. The location of the hotel was very convenient quite close to shops etc, but we only had time for a quick look around as we were heading off to the Rythym of the Rails show at another hotel. But had we have been looking for a restaurant for dinner there was plenty nearby. While our trip on the Mountaineer was Gold Class , this hotel was only 3 star accommodation but had everything we needed and rooms were very comfortable and roomy. we slept well and ready for the next day to continue on our Rocky Mountaineer adventure.

I thought I would try this inconspicuos hotel as it is the hotel where the Noble Pig is. I normally stay down the street, but it was full. Wow - what a little gem ! The rooms and much of the hotel has been newly renovated. The service was good and the hotel was very comfortable.

We did not choose this hotel, it was booked for us by the Rocky Mountaineer company for an overnight stop between Vancouver and Jasper. We were very disappointed with the rather basic, tired decor etc given how much our train tickets were (gold leaf service, the red leaf passengers stayed elsewhere in town). The room was huge (although the bathroom was tiny) with a thin, threadbare carpet and very little furniture. All the decor was brown and the public areas and staircases reminded me of my university hall of residence ca 1986 which is probably when this hotel last had a facelift. The bed was comfortable enough although our sleep was disturbed early by the trains in the shunting yard close to our window and the train horns. We can't comment on the staff because we didn't interact with them, but they smiled nicely enough as we walked through reception.

Nothing particularly wrong with this hotel for a one-night stay if you paid under $100 for it, but not appropriate for Rocky Mountaineer gold leaf service.
