“Comfortable stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2012

Recently stayed at the Thompson and enjoyed our stay. The hotel is very clean with the rooms are relatively good. The room we stayed in was clean and comfortable however they do need to update the bathrooms soon. Looks like all else has under gone some changes but the shower had black mold in the tile. It looks like they tried to cover it up with silicone in the corner to stop it but you still see it. They do make an effort to make it clean, but just to let people know. Also watch they do charge $20 extra for a fridge which we thought was pricey. Most places include a fridge in your room, but not here.

The definite upside is the coffee in the lobby in the morning. So wonderful to have good coffee other than the small tiny brewer in the room. . The staff at the front desk go out of their way to help you which is an asset as well. Nice roomy lobby when others are checking in and out.

Did not try the restaurant out so no comments about the experience.

Overall we are happy with our stay and would recommend staying here.

Dear elroyjetson40,

Thank you for reviewing The Thompson Hotel and Conference Centre! I am pleased to see that you enjoyed your stay, and be assured that I have forwarded your concerns about the bathroom to our Housekeeping and Maintenance departments.
We do have a few different room type options for our guests' pleasure, most do include refrigerators, while a few offer a different value with no refrigerator.
We keep the coffee fresh all day and well into the evening, so I hope to see you back enjoying a cup very soon!

Stayed one night as part of the Rocky Mountaineer tour. The room was quiet and overlooked the car park at the back.

Very comfortable beds and an air con unit that was quiet (essential if you are a light sleeper).

We walked down to the park on a lovely warm night and even though parts of it were flooded, there were families enjoying the many facilities . Nothing much was open except a few restaurants .We ate at the Boston Pizza,a short walk from the park. The usual pizza fare.

Next morning a quick check out - very well organised.

Dear r00m_with_a_view,

It was a pleasure to host you for a brief time during your Rocky Mountaineer vacation! We have been enjoying lovely weather and I'm happy that you were able to see our lovely city in the summer. Riverside Park hosts a nightly free music concert and attracts families and couples, just a wonderful gathering place during the warm evenings. I hope you are able to return to Kamloops soon, we would love to have you back!

Overnight stop as part of our Rocky Mountaineer experience. Pleasantly surprised when we checked in, staff were friendly and keen to help and our room was clean and very comfortable. Close to restaurants and the shops are only a short walk away. Good nights sleep in a comfortable bed.

We were on the Rocky Mountaineer Goldleaf deluxe package. Our room was clean and comfortable and was the top of the hotel's rooms. Not much of a view but then we were only in the hotel to sleep. Went to the restaurant next door and enjoyed a simple meal. Even tried the deep fried pickles. Interesting! Was surprised to find all the shops closed when we took a walk down the main street. Would have thought with a town full of tourists looking to spend money the shops would have stayed open.

Room Tip: Not sure it would make much difference which room you had as dont think any of them have views as su...

We stayed here briefly as a rest stop while on the Rocky Mountaineer. The hotel and room were adequate for our needs. The best part was the seamless delivery of our luggage. We ate at the Frick and Frack the first night in Kamloops and the Noble Pig on our return trip. Both were very good and within a short walk from the hotel. If you feel like stretching your legs after your train trip, take a walk downtown it is very nice and safe.

stayed for one night on our way from Whistler to Jasper. Room was clean and comfortable and staff friendly and helpful. We had a meal in the restaurant (Crush) very nice. After the meal we had a walk in the downtown area, mostly closed except for other restaurants. This town seems to be a pickup point for the Rocky Mountaineer and nothing else.

Room Tip: pick a room on town side as railroad on other side can be noisy

Dear kcon52,

Thank you for reviewing The Thompson Hotel and Conference Centre. I am pleased that you found our hotel clean and our team members friendly. We try hard to make every guest feel at home every day.
Kamloops may seem like a sleepy little town when you come in the late afternoon and only stay for one night. Believe me, this city rocks! We have a huge Arts community and we are not known at the Tournament Capital of Canada for naught! Every night during the summer we have a free Music in the Park festival, and during the winter we have one of the best ski mountains in the country.
You must come back and experience everything Kamloops has to offer, we would love to play host for you!

We had a nice overnight stay at The Thompson as part of the Rocky Mountaineer journey from Jasper to Vancouver. Was given a very nice room as a treat for our honeymoon.

Everything about the hotel is adequate (I think that's the best way to describe it) but what really jumped out pleasantly is one of the restaurants - the Noble Pig Brewery. It's a great place for dinner and the craft beers were excellent!
