Paying $7 to park anywhere in Kamloops is an absolute joke, but in an empty parking lot? Really?Otherwise, the Internet was fast and free and the rooms were fine. Lots of trains moving through town at all hours just a block away so light sleepers should expect to be disturbed. Staff was friendly.

Dear bigpictureguy,

I am pleased to see that our team treated you well, we go out of our way to make everyone feel welcome at The Thompson. We do not build the parking fee into our rates, so if you are not parking a vehicle, you are not paying extra. Downtown parking is at a premium and we guarantee you a spot when you are staying with us. I do hope we will see you again, we would love to have you back!

The sofas, TV and the bathroom are pretty out dated. Not enough covered parking spots. I had to park outside of the hotel in a public parking lot and paid $7 for it. The continental breakfast area has only 7 tables, we were lucky to get the last one.

Stayed there with 4 people in room - the bed was good, not enough towels or shampoo but that was easily rectified. Reasonable quiet. Location was good with walking access to many great restaurants. Pool was a bit small but there was a games room which kids appreciated.

Dear Smagf,

I am so happy to hear that you and your party enjoyed our games room! It is unique to The Thompson and many families stay here just to sit back, relax and have fun in that area, as it also adjoins our indoor pool and hot tub. We hope to see you back at The Thompson soon, thank you for your review!

This hotel was surprising as my itinerary through Rocky Mountaineer indicated one should not expect too much from the hotels in Kamloops. The room was larger than the other two five star hotels I stayed at. There was air-conditioning which was appreciated as it was a very hot summer's day.

Room Tip: Our room at the end of the corridor was very quiet. The air conditioner was quiet as well.

Myself and 6 other girls stayed at this hotel last weekend for one night, for a bachelorette party. We had rooms 221 and 223, which had an adjoining door, which was great!

Room: A little on the small side, but nice. TVs were older, but we didn't watch them anyways. Beds were comfy, pillows and linens very nice. Rooms have clearly been partially updated, but things like the ceilings and bathtubs look like they didn't receive the same TLC. Room was quiet, only ever heard noise when a young child was screaming in the hallway a few doors down.

Pool: Didn't go in, but tested it and it was fairly warm. It's a small, kind of uninviting poor, but would definitely do the trick for a quick swim (indoor).

Lobby: Lovely

Service: All of the customer service people we dealt with were great. Downside: Wifi was SUPER slow (couldn't watch streaming movies or youtube stuff). Talked to front desk, they said that it meant that there were other people using it. There's got to be a way to improve that though, no?

Location: Fantastic. The downtown area of Kamloops is pretty small, and we walked everywhere. Good restaurants and bars definitely within a 10 minute walk (all flat, no hills!).

Breakfast: We were SUPER impressed with the "continental" breakfast served at the restaurant next door (which is included in your room rate...but only 1 person per bed...which we thought was strange... they charge you $10 per person on top of that). Lots of fresh fruit, pastries, pancakes, three kinds of bread, juice, coffee, tea etc...). Again, super tasty, much much better than we were expecting.

Feel free to ask me if you have any questions :)

This is a good hotel to stop over. Its location is not far from the Casino, some nice restaurants, old style Paramount Theatre, not very modern look library, ... you feel you are back to 60s. The Grind is coffee shop in downtown with some simple food. The best is they freshly grind coffee at your choice. I met a film director and his assistant when I was having my breakfast there. They told me that Kamloops keeps the "old look" for filming purpose. Everything has a reason.
