We were travelling through the Rockies on our Honeymoon and had planned to stay in a cabin at Lac le Jeune for two nights in order to relax before heading to Vancouver to complete our trip. As it turned out we could only cope with one night due to the terrible conditions at the Lac le Jeune Resort!! The cabin itself was dirty, damp and in a poor state of repair, there were numerous dead files on the window sills and floor, one of the window panes was broken, the front door was split through the middle, cupboard doors were missing, there was dust and cobwebs everywhere, the bathroom was dirty and the pillow cases were stained. An effort to hoover up some of the mess was made after we complained but the place was really in need of more than just a flick round with a duster. The decor, fixtures and fittings were all extremely dated which would have been perfectly fine by us if they were clean and the only heating in the cabin was provided by several electric fan heaters which struggled to do the job. The comments on the website relating to luxury showers and comfortable beds couldn't be further from the truth. There appear to be several comments relating to the quality of the food, I can only deduce that these people must have eaten somewhere else as the food on offer at the Lac le Jeune resort was far from delicious. The only choice for dinner was Chicken, Fish or Steak. My wife and I only wanted a main course and chose Salmon which was awful, it was over cooked and accompanied with a raw jacket potato a single slice of carrot and sprig of Broccoli. Dinner was served in the main dining room which was filled with the smoke being generated from all the food being char grilled in the kitchen. After spending a sleepless night in the cold, damp, dirty and frankly uncomfortable cabin we decided to skip breakfast after our previous experience with dinner and check out ASAP. The lake and surroundings are lovely and would make a great destination if only the accommodation was improved and brought up to an acceptable standard. The Lac le Jeune resort is extremely expensive and the costs certainly do not reflect the standard on offer. We did question whether this was the ‘wilderness’ and if we’d expected too much but after reviewing the website again, it certainly does make itself out to be a luxury resort. Not to mention the luxury price.

This must have been one of the strangest hotel experiences of my life! I felt like I was walking into my grandparent's era! The location is spectacular, but the hotel is distinctly odd, from the birds and ground squirrels that are encouraged to feed inside the hotel lobby, to the stuffed animals on the beds, and the decorations that are straight out of the 60s. The food was dreadful, it as you are so far from civilisation there is not much choice (we stayed in the hotel, if you stayed in the cabins at least you could have cooked for yourself). There was a set 4 course menu: soup (straight out of the tin), salad (the best part of the meal), a choice of chicken, steak or fish, and then a selection of desserts (straight out of the freezer). I chose the chicken thinking it would be the safest option, but I reckon it was preformed and again straight out of the freezer. My husband has the steak which he said was the worst he had ever eaten. There were only 5 rooms occupied in the houtel when were were there, and we ended up sitting in far corners of a huge dining room with harsh overhead lighting and views over the lake (through windows where the condensation had got into the double glazing!). Breakfast was actually ok. Overall really expensive for what you get.

Room Tip: Try to get a cabin.

We stayed here on the second night of our honeymoon in Canada. When we arrived we were greeted by the manager who asked if we'd like to take one of the cabins instead of our room. We jumped at the chance and were delighted. A beautiful little cabin looking out over the lake and mountains in the distance. The meal at the hotel on the evening was delicious and well presented. After waking up late the next morning we watched the mist on the lake and the wildlife for too long and missed breakfast. The owners were so worried about this and made sure we didn't leave without something! Would recommend this place to anyone who loves peace and quiet.

Room Tip: Our opinion is take one of the cabins.

We stayed here a night on our way to Vancouver - to be honest the actual hotel (more like motel) is a dingy little place and we paid $144 which is way too high for the room. But what you get ripped off in lodging you will feel is reclaimed in the food. Our dining experience was spectacular. The four-course meal at $30 per person was amazing - definitely puts some highly rated, expensive restaurants in Calgary to shame. The music selection was romantic and beautiful and the sun setting on the lake left me in awe.

Besides the fact that they are pricing the rooms way too high . Everything was pretty clean (despite being old and musky) and the people were super friendly.

Also I have to mention the quaint decor!!! When you enter the hotel, you will see stuffed animals around the foyer (Moose, Bears & Beavers). Haha, also there were little handmade tissue flowers in the bathroom and the table in the room and more stuffed animals on the beds. The owner is an animal lover himself and definitely has a very cutesy taste for decor.

I don't think they run the hotel for the money, but if they did, I suggest they say goodbye to the photography tours and get more help on hand to expand the dining room into a restaurant. Also, I'd get an interior decorator to redo that dining room. Purple place mats on blue tablecloths...again...how quaint!

Lac La Jeune Resort is a beautiful and relaxing spot on the lake that's easy to get to, just a ways off the main highway. It has rooms in the main hotel and cabins that make a very good family/friends base.

This is not a luxurious property. The hotel is more of a rustic, no phone, quiet old fashion dated property. So if you are looking for a Marriott or a Holiday in, keep going. It will also depend on how much you pay. As we are part of a first class tour, we found it below our expectations; however if not, my review would have to depend on the price. As it is booked the internet will not give me a price. The rack rate on the door would have been $144 for 2 in high season and that would be a bit much. But you pay for the view, all rooms have a view of the lake and it was beautiful. We had a nice short bird nature walk and the staff is outstanding.

Location- In front of Lake
Reception- Very one on one friendly.
Breakfast – Pancakes’ were good- The buffet food was hit and missed. The Cesar salad was good and the potatoes were excellent. Didn’t like the ham or the roast beef. The desserts were good varied and plenty.
Rooms –Have been recently semi updated. The bathrooms are still old. Lovely lake view.
Bed –Very nice mattress
Wi-Fi- Free with good reception
TV- Nice modern
Room for bags.-plenty
Tea Kettle or coffee maker –not in the room, you have to wait for breakfast. There is nowhere to go without a car.
Bathroom- Old fashion
Bedroom- No AC and the heater never came on. We ask for it to be checked and wasttold it was ok, but as it got cold at night it did not kick in. Too many mosquitoes to keep door open.
Shower pressure- don’t know, there was no hot water. By the time I got up.
Cloths line- none
Safety bar in bathroom- No
Towels- Nice and clean
Amenities –Basic
Hair dryer- good power but smelled burnt
Parking free
Laundry- No self serve
Iron and ironing board-no
The main picture is of a house down the street.

We stayed in this hotel for 1 night on the way to Whistler from Jasper. Room was huge with fantastic panoramic views of the lake & bed was larger than king size. We spotted a badger whilst eating our evening meal overlooking the lake. Food was good, had to eat in hotel as too far from town but hotel itself was definitely in need of updating, carpets, furniture, décor, tiles etc. As just beginning of season we were only part of a handful of visitors. I did ask if we had entered the 'hotel California' as wondered if we would ever leave!! Staff were pleasant enough & we met the owner who was also very pleasant & helpful. The lake is a bird watcher's paradise, pity I couldn't say the same for the hotel. With some much needed sympathetic refurbishment it could be & wouldn't hesitate in returning. $51.22 for 1 three course meal, 1 soup & desert, 1 full continental & 1 cereal with fruit juice & croissant plus gratuities.
