“No elevator”
Reviewed 18 September 2010

Resort is in a lovely, tranquil setting, but the building itself leaves much to be desired. There is no elevator, nor are there any guest rooms on the main floor, so you have to either walk up or down a flight of stairs to get to your room. This can be very difficult for many older people. Rooms themselves are bare bones and pretty threadbare. Quite the culture shock after spending the previous night at the Chateau Lake Louise.

The hotel definitely has a lovely, peaceful setting and our rooms were clean and spacious. Service was good and friendly and the food at the evening meal was delicious! We thought it was very good value for a wide buffet and huge selection of delicious desserts - we wish we could have tried more of them but were too full!
Disappointed by not having tea/coffee making facilities. Our teenagers thought it very boring - perhaps because there was no TV and we weren't there long enough to do any canoeing / walking or any activities on the lake - just an overnight stop - which wasn't the hotel's fault.
I loved the wildlife right outside the window.
Do take bug spray - plenty of mosquitos!

I have just returned from Western Canada after a 14 day holiday with my wife and we were booked in by the travel agent for an overnight stop here on our way to Jasper by car.
The hotel is a little remote although not to difficult to find.

To start with a positive the hotel is by a pictureque lake and if you like wild life there are plenty of birds, squirrels to watch as well I believe beavers in the lake if you get up early enough.

The hotel appears of wooden construction and we drove passed it initially as it does not look anything like a conventional hotel. Our first impression of the establishment never changed as when we approached it we thought what are we staying in tonight? On entering the building the decor was very dark and not inviting although the greeting from the woman on reception was very pleasant. They couldn't however make up their mind what room to allocate us first 311then 316 then 311 again.

The room was quite big but no tea coffee making facilities or hairdryer and old fashioned. There was a small balcony but no chairs to sit on to look at the view. On close inspection however the thing that put us off was the sheets and pillow cases on the beds looked crumpled and appeared not to have been ironed. On turning the sheets back there were some large stains on them and we got the impression that these were not fresh and we spend the night lying on top of the bed to try and get some sleep although we felt uncomfortable.

There are no other hotels around therefore you have to eat in the hotel and on this occassion there was a four course meal (Usually a buffet) however where as the soup was ok the main course was served luke warm and the dessert apple pie was awful. You could argue for 30$ each what could you expect but the meal could have been much better. Again another thing that put us off was when completed our second course ceasar salan we put the cuttlery together on the plate to be taken away only for them to be handed back to us dirty by the waitress to use for our main course. The drinks we thought were pricy for an establishment of this grade 24$ for four medium beers about £4 each.

A word of warning the insects around the hotel and lake are big and we were advised before going to keep our door and windows shut in the room after dusk as you could end up with nasty insect bites.

Would we stay there again definitely not and my advice is to avoid this hotel if possible and try and find a different hotel just North of Kamloops even just for an overnight stop.

We arrived after driving for about 5 hours and it was nothing short of stunning. Your jaw hit the floor as you saw the beautiful lake and then all the wonderful birds etc., in the trees and on the many many feeding stations outside the hotel.

The hotel itself is clean and comfortable but would benefit from some updating. It wouldn't take a lot to make a beautiful location shining inside the hotel too. Maybe lose a few of the stuffed toys too? A little kitch.

The food in the restaurant was good too and the chef catered with amazing flair for my dairy intollerance. You really do need to eat at the hotel as you are a little way from Kamloops and if you don't know the road it could seem a long way in the dark, especially for those of us who are used to street lights too!

All that said we saw so many birds too numerous to mention but including blue jay, redwing blackbirds, woodpeckers all right outside out window, trout were starting to jump in the lake and we watched them going back up the little brook to spawn as well as the local bear walking down the street!

We were only there one night, but would have liked to stay another day to see more of the area.

Beautiful location between two lakes - with plentiful bird life and lovely short walks round the lakes. Our trip was somewhat limited by continuous downpours - little to do in the rain, but drive into Kamloops about 20 miles away.
We stayed not in the hotel, but in one of the lakeside cabins; these are well located overlooking the lake, and spacious and well equipped with huge fridge, large cooker - comfortable and relaxing settees, table and good bedroom. Lighting somewhat sparse, and for the cold weather we were experiencing - very unusual, we were told "this is normally a desert area"! rather cold as the main sitting room gas heater was not functioning. The windows didn't fit properly - there were gaps between the frames and the structure, and the double glazed sections didn't close. The overall external presentation was one of almost dereliction - with paint peeling on the doors and the aforesaid windows.
The main hotel and its host seemed very warm and hospitable, but we did not eat there.

This hotel is wonderful. The hospitality of all the staff (Wally in particular) is amazing. The rooms appear to have been updated recently and are very spacious and clean. The food is delicious and great value. The next best thing after the hospitality is the location. This is a nature lovers dream. We have been lucky enough to see black bear (on the bird table!!), deer, beaver, loons, bald eagles, several species of woodpecker etc. from our balcony. We have been to Canada four times now and can honestly say that this is still my favourite place for a couple of nights of total relaxation.

We were recommended this hotel/resort by Trailfinders and we are so glad that we went to stay there.
We arrived early on the day we were going to stay there, and were rewarded by getting a cabin to stay in, so this review must be based on that.
It was snowing when we arrived and the wind was whistling over the lake into the livingroom of our cabin, so we had every heater going as soon as we got in. The view of the lake was superb and the cabin itself is basic but very spacious. But this is surely what you want if you go to a log cabin? The heaters worked well as when we awoke next morning, we were warm despite the car being covered in ice.
We partook of the evening meal and it was absolutely superb and great value for money. The serving staff were wonderful and made the meal even more enjoyable. The small bar is also staffed by a great guy and the beer is very good.
The birdlife is superb and the hotel puts out feeders and so it is a dream for photographers Also got some pictures of the shy beavers.
Take our tip - go to Lac Le Jeune resort and enjoy real rural Canada, as you will not regret it.
